Errands in Town

The purpose of this thread is so everyone can go around town and run less-intensive errands in-character. This is a good place to do things like shopping, selling items, sightseeing, visiting NPCs, doing research, worshipping at churches, and other roleplay stuff. Ideally, we can do things like that in this thread during the time between sessions, so that during the actual game we can focus more on things that involve the whole party, and very roll/grid-focused things like battles. I may still ask you to roll checks for things like Appraise or Knowledge, or simply offer you the chance; in those cases, just roll the skill in the chat and post the result here.  So, the first thing we can do here is go turn in those plants! It's Earthday, the 13th of Planting, and the weather is windy, moderate (normal) 59º F, moderate wind 18mph. You have the chest containing the two Angel's Tongue plants, still alive thanks to Kraggan's skill and efforts, and a water-damaged bounty letter roughly suggesting where to bring them (handout viewable in-game). How do you go about trying to locate the right shop?

Ask someone for the location of an alchemist shop then ask them, pretty sure they're all in some merchant guild. Mention we are here to collect on the contract so we can speed things up. this thread doesn't exactly allow for personal stuff such as stealing from the wealthy merchant upstairs. unsure if I want to treat time as malleable so I can get everything I wanted done at once

As for secretive stuff, we can still do that over PMs if it's something you don't want the other PCs to know about. You guys are going to be taking 3 months off in-game, so there's plenty of time to do stuff in town. I want to get the loot-selling handled first, though.
14, I don't know about the others but I'm ok with you doing the roll to save time, it's going to be saved in chat ether way.
Kraggan is going to ask for information with the note, showing it's damaged nature off. She asks around for who knows of an alchemist shop named ... Rimkleguck? spunkledudd? simbleduck? stumbleduck? sumplepuck?  {Roll Gather Information: 19 + 5 gp per week of searching} {Does anyone recognize the name and direct me? I will try collecting info in various inns and pubs across town each night until she hears something.}
With Leoavor Limar's assistance and a handful of silver to loosen some lips, Kraggan manages to track down the right shop: " Stumbleduck Reagents, Nostrums, & Whathaveyou" The propietor is a rock gnome who goes by Stumbleduck, an alchemist and apothecary. His shelves are lined with an enormous variety of alchemical devices and herbal remedies (regardless of your +1 book choice, you can find virtually any alchemical item from any 3.0 or 3.5 sourcebook for sale here, or have it crafted to order if not in stock). He's not a Merchants Guild member, but seems quite clever and energetic. He affirms that the bounty is still in effect, and laments that no one has been able to recover an Angel's Tongue for him until now... and once he sees that you've managed to keep not just one, but two  of them alive this long, he's overcome with excitement. He spends a while talking shop with Kraggan and picking her brain on the methods she used to preserve them aboveground (Kraggan rolled a DC19 Survival to explain her methods), and shares his own plans to cultivate and reproduce them in a special preservarium (Craft (alchemy) or (herbology) applies) he's built. He's so pleased to have two living specimens and such a wealth of information on caring for them that he becomes a party contact! Contact: "Stumbleduck" Ningle, Rock Gnome M expert3 (alchemist)     Favor: Use his alchemist's lab for 1 week    Frequency: 1/four months He's also happy to take a look at the items you weren't able to sell in Bowhery... Flask of spider venom materials SF3-9: He says this is worth about 15 gold, though poison materials like this aren't useful to him in his work. He tells you that buying or selling poisons is also illegal in Waterwend, as in most cities, buuut... given how much help you've been to him, he certainly wouldn't alert the guards if you were to, say, find the Church of Nerull in the red-light district and look for a halfling priest there named Cade Underbough. Hypothetically, of course. Not that he would know of such a person. Pouch of arsenic materials SF3-8: He says these are worth about 20 gold pieces, but would  be useful to him for various alchemical applications, like doping emitters. Despite its scary reputation, he explains, arsenic has lots of perfectly legitimate industrial applications. 3 greenish smelly stones SF11-1: These he recognizes immediately! They're called Oozebait, an alchemical device that attracts oozes and intoxicates them for d6+1 minutes. They're favored by adventurers as a way to bypass oozes in the Catacombs, which can be dangerous and difficult monsters to fight. He actually makes and sells oozebait, and says he'd be happy to buy these back, though they might be more useful to you than the 25 gold each he'd pay (meaning, their price is 50gp). Kraggan also asks about buying permanent light sources, and Stumbleduck happily tells her that with the Angel's Tongue plants he'll be able to make such things. He says if she comes back in a few weeks, he can have an Everglowing Torch ready for her: a permanent, heatless alchemical light source as bright as a torch, which will cost only 80 gold pieces. He can craft it into any shape she likes, if she'd prefer an amulet or brooch to a rod, for example.
For the Everglowing Torch, I'd like an amulet to wear about my neck with a cap that can flip over the light so I can remain hidden at night. I'd like to sell the arsenic materials to him, but I will keep the Oozebaits. I will put them in my equipment.
Because we should keep them on hand, when she gets back to the inn, Kraggen will explain to each of the other members what the oozebait stones are, and give one to Dru and Limar to keep on their person. I will keep one.
Okay, the Oozebaits will be party treasure (but carried for their combat usefulness), and you're selling the arsenic to Stumbleduck? I'll wait a couple days of real-time before officially doing the sale and splitting coins, in case anyone has a problem with that.

I've  got no problem with what kraggans doing. I would like Leo's help in finding out about the banks in waterwend and whether I have to work by proxy through him and then finding a good gem cutter to appraise the stones in my hoard as well as cut the black one into a 12 face symbolof Astilabor. After that most of what I want can be done with out his help (thanks bud) -let's focus on the bank part first    limar-"Hark, where art thou Leoavor? I need thine assistance in speaking to and requesting information from the commoners of this fair river town, least I frighten them with my scales visage. I seek a monetary establishment call a "bank" so that I may store part of my hoard In and let it grow over thousands of years like a seed into a grand tree with millions of golden leaves"
While we wait for any objections to the sale, let's timeskip ahead a little to handle the next stuff Limar's doing. Josh said: limar-"Hark, where art thou Leoavor? Rather than having you roll to assist, I suppose it actually makes more sense that Leoavor is the one assisting you , since it's your plan and goal after all. So, Leo successfully assists, giving you a +2. Roll Gather Information and let me know how much (if any) money you're throwing around to help loosen tongues. As a reminder, 3 gold is a good baseline amount for one check (no bonuses or penalties), though for common local knowledge the DC is usually only around 12. In lieu of using the skill check (which represents more training, ability, and effort) you could just ask the first few people you see, but the information from such is usually very minimal and its accuracy can vary wildly.

I'll keep it at base 3 gold so 14 +Leo's 2 what do we learn about banks. -also limar-"Really leo? Kraggan tells Xankoris this: Flask of spider venom materials SF3-9: He says this is worth about 15 gold, though poison materials like this aren't useful to him in his work. Then she asks if he is willing to go over one evening (maybe with Limar if you feel the need for backup/intimidating muscle. Plus safety buddy.) She asks because she stays out of the city at night.

The total comes to 4010gp, which is split amongst the party members active at the time these were gathered as follows. Note that this is the final payout, you can add the total here to your sheet. I've updated the party assets handout with the party share, too: Kraggan, Drusilia, Leoavor, and Limar each get: 60pp, 68gp, 3sp, 3cp The party treasury gets: 130pp, 36gp, 6sp, 8cp I've also added an Oozebait each to the sheets of Drus, Kraggan, and Limar.  If anyone has any problem with these splits, just speak up. As the DM, I'm just bookkeeping, not making the decisions about who gets what--that's entirely up to the PCs. :) Josh said: I'll keep it at base 3 gold so 14 +Leo's 2 what do we learn about banks. -also limar-"Really leo? I think it must come from your dragon blood. I do want to spend some time relaxing and studying, but we should get a handle on things here first." With a 16 total, you're able to get some good basic information about the banks in Waterwend. Three of the 5 major national Terolus banks have branches here, and are the most secure and reliable choices: The House of Burach is popular with adventurers, known for having poor interest rates but very cheap money-changing which is free for account-holders with at least a 100gp balance. The House of Lord Ebano here is a particularly wealthy branch, thanks to the Merchants Guild, known for having the best security of the 5 major banks--its branches are guarded by warriors trained in the traditional sword arts of its founder's home area of Provincia and wielding the strange curved longswords called katanas that they use there. The House of Tyild and Rodat is more commonly found in seaports, but this rare inland branch invests heavily in river merchants, especially the Golden Sail and Three Houses companies, which are the largest in the Catacombs area. It's known for having decent interest rates and reasonable moneychanging fees.  There is one local bank, Underbough's Underwriting, which started (and still functions) as an insurance company. Its owner, Merla, does not offer moneychanging services, but sells binders on boats, buildings, and lives. Payments on policies with her can be automatically deducted from the balance of a savings account, which is why she started up the banking services to begin with.

I'll visit each bank and see which ones would let Limar store his gold there and get more in depth details from them. I'm doing this for the interest rates and being a water breathing dragon i'll start with the house of tyild and rodat  then Burach , ebano, and the local. Not much i can do if the bank is dead set against me but if i can i'd like to do some diplomacy, maybe some bluffs, talk to a higher up about the benefits of protecting a dragons hoard...etc -I'm also sharing this info with the party.
Leoavor comes along with you to keep up the master/familiar act, and helps negotiate with the bankers at each branch for you to open your own account. Roll 4 Diplomacy checks, one per bank. He successfully assists on the second and fourth checks.

It doesn't go super well... none of the major banks are willing to do business with an evil dragon, even a familiar, but you and Leo manage to convince Merla Underbough that the potential wealth from a dragon's hoard could provide an excellent income source for generations of her family to come. She talks with you for a long while, and you find out a good deal more about her and her services: Underbough's Underwriting: originally and primarily an insurance company, this small bank started offering savings accounts about 20 years ago. Its middle-aged proprietor, tallfellow halfling F Merla Underbough, is the breadwinner of her family and mother to 6 children. She is a distant cousin of Ryelly Underbough, owner of Ryelly's Wondrous Vault. Stern about business and warm about everything else, she is widely considered one of the sharpest minds in Waterwend, doing all the underwriting and actuarial calculations herself. She does not offer moneychanging services, but still sells binders on boats, buildings, and lives. The terms, rates and downpayments of these binders are heavily based on trust and personal relationships, often leaving outsiders with hefty initial fees, but the balance of savings accounts with her (NOT with the 5 Major Banks) can be used to make payments, which is why her insured are the bulk of her accountholders (and also protects her more from defaults). Savings accounts compound interest monthly, and offer the following rates: Minimum balance      Interest rate 10gp                          0.01% 50gp                          0.02% 100gp                        0.03% 500gp                        0.04% 1000gp                      0.05%

ok then i'm going to deposit 90 platinum pieces and 100 gold coins for top rates. Then question her on what kind of security she has ( i may or may not pay an additional 10 gold for her to hire some guards and give permission for the use of 10 gold from the interest rates to keep them on), I want this investment protected.  -question her on what ryellys wondrous vault is? -and when does the first interest apply and monthly there after? -if i'm making 50 gold a month just on interest rates how much are you making?  bid her fare well then go to find a professional gem cutter  I had to roll 3 times to get that around 12 dc met, so thats -9 gold total. some people just don't like dragons, I find any gem cutters in this town?

Ryelly's is a magic item shop, the best in town (she insists), run by her cousin Ryelly Underbough. He's a skilled merchant, buying and selling all sorts of useful but expensive magical items brought from far and wide by adventurers and traders. She hints that some of her vault's magical defenses came from his resources.  It'll have taken at least a few days to reach this point, so we'll say you opened your account on Planting 12th, which means interest will accrue and compound every month on the 12th (not counting the four weeklong festivals).  She smiles gently and points out the decimal on her sign: "It's 0.05%, not 5.00%. Your first interest accrual will be 5 silver pieces. Of course it'll keep growing, especially as you deposit more... I don't invest as heavily as the big banks, but perhaps with your hoard to back me, that will change over time. Waterwend is a thriving port, and there are always businesses looking for investors." Josh said: bid her fare well then go to find a professional gem cutter  I had to roll 3 times to get that around 12 dc met, so thats -9 gold total. some people just don't like dragons, I find any gem cutters in this town Most  people don't like dragons, lol. But yes, you do track down a jewelers named Rings & Things ,   run by tallfellow halfling spouses Jilly and Laredo Glimmerpitch. They buy and sell gemstones and jewelry, and are both skilled gemcutters and metalworkers. They're members of the Merchants Guild, and assure you that their higher prices mean the very best quality. They take a look at your 4 stones, and Appraise them. They tell you that the first is not a peridot, but a fiery yellow corundum, and offer you 350 gold pieces for it. The bloodstone and jasper they affirm are indeed those types of stone, and offer 30gp for each. The last is a piece of onyx, which they offer you 14 gold for if you care to sell it... if you want it cut, they'll need a reference for this holy symbol you want on it, and about a week to finish it. Jilly quotes you 2 gold for the work, and says they could fit it into a setting too, if you like. They have lots of fine jewelry... gold, silver, platinum, you name it.

Going to have to sell the corundum just to afford up keep, I'll keep the rest. -thats pretty much everything i wanted to accomplish, time to sit back an relax.  - I'll also encourage Merla to invest, be real happy to watch the hoard grow with out any effort on my part.  Contact - Limar , green dragon 5 Favor- attempt to watch 6 kids for a day  Frequency-  1 / 50 gold earned out side of regular bank rates                                                       Favor-  take out the competition         Frequency- 1 / 500 go......I'm kidding i don't kill people just for monetary gain, kraggan would flip the table. -I'd like to go visit Ryelly's magic shop to see what wonders he has.
By the way, if anyone wants to work to earn money during downtime, just post here with the skill you want to use. Craft, Profession, Perform, Tumble, and spellcasting can all be used to earn an income, as well as untrained labor (for significantly less). Josh said: -I'd like to go visit Ryelly's magic shop to see what wonders he has. While you're running errands with Leoavor, you notice that the town guards here wield long tridents rather than the longspears more common in most places, and that there's a lot of greenery everywhere, even downtown. You also pass by a recruiting stand by the roadside where some soldiers in Terolus Human Military uniforms are trying to drum up new recruits for the war against Suel, offering "true gold for true service." Leoavor buys some nice new cartographic tools from a merchant at the caravan market on your way to the magic district (following Merla's directions), telling you that he's been resuming his studies of the field and wants to draw up some new maps for the party during the summer. When you arrive in the magic district, you're shocked to find several  magic shops catering to different specialities:  Nerwenye's Oils and Elixirs ,  Frimin and Asgeifr's Armaments ,   Ziged's Wands ,   Verrer and Arral's Quill , and of course  Ryelly's Wondrous Vault . The eponymous Ryelly Underbough is a middle-aged and portly tallfellow halfling with a cheery demeanor (Sense Motive applies). As he shows you the fine glass cases that display his wares, he tells you proudly that he's been buying and selling magical items for over 40 years, and is quite an expert in their arcane natures. His current stock includes five rings, two rods, two small sacks, and a necklace of shining golden beads, which he insists are all quite powerful items. With his permission, Leoavor casts detect magic  and confirms that all of them have auras ("as do the cases themselves, the locks on the cases, and quite a lot of other things in here... better not try to shoplift," he adds in a whispered aside to you). Ryelly cheerfully asks what sort of magical aid you require; protection? firepower? mobility? firefighting? summoning? transportation logistics?

It would have been nice to get the magic hand back. -after we're down browsing (i've got no gold to spend anyways) I'll bug Taiba to take me sight seeing. I'm running out of things to do when are we leaving water wend? -nice maps leo.

Josh said: Really just came to browse after storing most of my gold in in your cousin Merlas bank....what do you got for transportation I need to keep my load light other wise i won't be able to get off the ground. and fire power is always nice. Ryelly smiles understandingly, wise enough to know when the soft sell works best. He directs you to the larger of the empty sacks on display, one of the rings, and the necklace, explaining: "This is called a Bag of Holding. It's quite expensive at 11025 gold pieces, but worth every copper! It weighs a constant sixty pounds, but can store a ton and a half inside itself! Special conjuration magic, you see, makes the bag larger on the inside than the outside... and makes it invaluable for adventurers on a long dungeon crawl." Leoavor comments "That'd be useful if we had to leave the boat behind in the Catacombs." Ryelly nods agreeably, and continues: "For firepower, you might be interested in the Ring of the Ram," he says, indicating the black iron ring with a ram's head on one side. "It can project a burst of force wherever you aim it, enough to crush a man's ribcage or burst down a door. Enemies close-by are usually shoved backwards by it, as well. Only 6637 gold, not a bad price if I do say so myself. And finally, this is a Necklace of Fireballs. It's quite a potent magical weapon, and a steal at only 3969 gold pieces. The wearer can detatch the beads without breaking the necklace, and throw them like a pebble... wherever they land, they explode on impact! Even the smallest can take out a group of soldiers, and the largest can bring down an ogre! You have to be careful though... if the beads catch on fire, they can all explode at once. But, nothing ventured, nothing gain, I always say!" Josh said: -well i did try to roll a diplomacy (5) for those terolus soldiers, really wanted to gather information(7) on that fort zeke said he was going to but that went poorly. Josh said: -after we're down browsing (i've got no gold to spend anyways) I'll bug Taiba to take me sight seeing. Taiba shows you around a bit over the next few days, during her free time. She brings you to the church of Corellon Larethian, god of the elves, which is quite nice here. "Waterwend has a lot of commerce with Treefall, so there are always elves about. High elves and tallfellow halflings get along famously, too." She also takes you to see the Sleeping Wurm, a famous attraction in one of the large canal intersections. She tells you not to be afraid, but when you first see it the sight is startling-- an enormous, serpentine blue draconic monster, curled up asleep atop a hoard of treasure at the bottom of the semi-clear water. It's undoubtedly a real creature, you can even see it breathing! Leoavor takes cover behind a potted plant, but Taiba only laughs along with a few passing locals, and insists "It's just an illusion. You know, magic? Nothing really there. Limar, swim down and touch it, you'll see." If you swim down, roll a Will save with a +4 bonus.
13, even if i think its real I'd still like to give a tap to wake it up for a nice chat.
Josh said: 13, even if i think its real I'd still like to give a tap to wake it up for a nice chat. As Limar swims closer, he's more and more convinced that Taiba and the locals are wrong. He can hear the monster's deep breathing beneath the water, and feel its body heat... but it doesn't respond when touched, sleeping on peacefully. Could the whole city have been misled about this thing? Perhaps it's some ancient guardian of this treasure, piles of gold and jewels, gilded swords and chests heaped on the bottom of the intersection below its bulk. It looks immense and mighty--though it's hard to gauge just how powerful it is while it's asleep, its size alone would doubtless make it a serious threat if angered.
And aside from Limar's sightseeing, the rest of the party is also presumably up to their own activities. On Flocktime 24th, Kraggan runs into a familiar face: Riet! The halfling druid she met in the Stonefare is mounted atop a german shepherd, whom she introduces as her new animal companion, Ellie. She tells Kraggan that she completed her research on the Stonefare's ecology, and is now in the midst of cataloguing Waterwend's urban flora, which is quite plentiful for such a bustling city. She also asks how their quest to find the Angel's Tongue went.

When you return, he proudly shows them to you and the rest of the party (there are also handouts of these in-game, as they're accessible for party use):     With that done, you two are able to find the red-light district easily enough, and after asking around for a while you manage to find someone who can tell you where to find the semi-secret Church of Nerull, the god of death. The tallfellow halfling high priest you speak introduces himself as Wellby Underbough, and directs you to his brother Cade, who turns out to be his identical twin. She only looks for jobs if she doesn't find anyone in need of help The common folk are always in need of help, and very grateful for the aid of a strong young woman like yourself. They've soon got you busy rescuing kittens from trees, chopping firewood, scaring off bullies, carrying groceries for old men, pulling weeds, and killing rats, and are more than happy to feed you from their tables and let you sleep by their hearths.

He and Wellby have a few other siblings, like most halfling families, and are distantly related to most of the other Underboughs in town, though they aren't really close to their family anymore... once they took to Nerull's service, they became black sheep. Their mother might have understood if they'd at least served Urogalan, the halfling god of death, but Nerull was just too far for her. Knowledge (religion) applies. At the pawn shop, a rough-looking, middle aged tallfellow halfling named Calbert Paddlewood shows you around. Like most pawn shops, his carries a wide variety of stuff, but he specializes in crossbows and has a wide variety of Small and Medium models on display. Once you explain that you're interested in thieves' tools, he nods and spits a stream of tobacco juice into a spitoon, then takes out some rolls of leather from under a counter. He has several different sets of thieves' tools rolled into each one, including a masterwork set that looks very fine. "105 gold pieces for this one," he says, standing firm on the price. "I ain't in the merchants guild, but it's as good a set o' lockpicks as you'll find anywhere in town." *** Sometime after all this, on Flocktime 15th, a traveler approaches Leoavor as you two are coming out of the Otterman one evening, saying he has a letter for him. He says that he paid 6 silver for it in Bowhery, and asks for a gold piece. Leoavor agrees, pays the man, and curiously opens it to read with you... It's from Jakob, sent all the way from Base Camp on Planting 1st! He tells of finding glass shards planted in the rations you left, that nearly killed the baby kobolds. If he hadn't been a cleric, he writes, they'd probably have perished. He suspects that Zeke might have been the culprit, and warns Leoavor to watch out for him (Leo mutters "thanks for the heads' up, buddy..."). Jakob goes on to tell of how messengers reached him at the end of Coldeven, bringing word from Orback Gatekeeper of Limar's warning that the dragon Puelossi might be coming soon to avenge her slain followers. They were willing to bring him out of the Stonefare, but refused to take the kobold children aboard their boat, and while they argued the black dragon came upon them! They were barely able to fend her off and escape downriver, arriving safely in Base Camp a week later. He finishes by wishing you two and the other Wayfinders well, asking Leo to thank you profusely for saving his life, and warning you two again to keep an eye on Zeke.

Religion 4, I'll save further stuff till after the next session. -I would like to share some of the things I've learned in my private stuff  limar met with his mom kalemne, big old dragon don't mess with her. a wizard named gurak lives to the north an controls bugbear he's pushing south for something. to the north east is the spider forest, guess what's there. and to the north west us some ancient place ed called black pool of course this is all orientated from mom's lair and not waterwend  and that I can fly to Fort greenwall in a day  I'd like to get a detect magic scroll from leo so I can scout them out to see if zeke has gotten there with the hand yet.
Kraggan exchanges some greeting with Riet, comments on her new companions healthy appearance. She relates the adventures of the party after they crossed paths: It took us about 2 weeks to find the church you told us of after you told us. We tried to negotiate a trade for the plants with the kobolds that were there, but I fell apart. We lost 3 companions and a friend and ended up killing all the adult kobolds. They left us no choice. We left the children alive, and a friend who was travelling with us for a short time, a cleric of Ehlonna stayed behind to try and raise the kobolds to respect life and nature in penance for killing their families. We found the plants in their cave, and left one behind as you asked us. I could see what you meant about it propping up the ecosystem there. We brought them here root and all. If the alchemist can keep them alive and growing here in town, perhaps another party won't need to go looking and take that last one.

You're not sure about all these non-dragon gods. You've definitely heard of Nerull, the human god of death, but not Urogalan. Leoavor is happy to scribe those scrolls for you, especially since his research on the Cult of Vecna is going very slowly. He's hasn't been able to find a library here, and doesn't want to attract TOO much attention by asking everyone he meets about the secret death cult. Shannon M. said: Kraggan exchanges some greeting with Riet, comments on her new companions healthy appearance. She relates the adventures of the party after they crossed paths Riet thanks you for leaving one behind, seeming more concerned with the health of the ecosystem than the lives of the kobolds. "Hopefully your cleric friend will take good care of the plants there, too." *** You guys also notice after a while that every Godsday is a big deal here, with lots of commotion around the services at the Temple of Yondalla. Knowledge (religion) applies. On the secular side of things, Berriesday on Wealsun 8th is a fun Teroli holiday that Leoavor and Xankoris have never seen before, where families go berry picking, vendors sell jam and preserves, and public shows get put on. Leoavor is the only party member who celebrates Luna Discorda on Wealsun 10th and 11th, though: a double holy day of Boccob that has something to do with Celene waxing and Luna waning at the same time. Then on Wealsun 17th, Riet again meets Kraggan when both are asked to help chaperone the festivies for Ehlonna's holy day, the Ceremony of the Turning. During this day, young children are carried blindfolded and barefoot into the woods and must find a new name before returning to the village feast. Each child is released separately and alone. They are guided by rowdy singing (and a huge bonfire if they are slow), and when they return are carried into the center of the gathering to whisper their name into the fire. This is supposedly their Truename, with all that implies, and (the children are told) must be kept a secret from others, lest it give them power over the wearer. Rangers and clerics of Ehlonna are especially busy this night, quietly patrolling the area and looking out for the children's safety.
The small patrol stops outside the town. The officer in command is a large man. 6'4 in Spiked Full Plate riding a large horse. He waits for the other five soldiers to gather around him as the two hirelings bring the pack mules to a stop off to the side of the road.  "Same as the last town. Inns and taverns, buy drinks, ask the questions and keep your ears open. Don't push too hard or loud.... he knows we're after him and will have his own watchers. Same cover story. We're recruiting for the war." They enter the town and take rooms. The officer orders wine sent to his room as the soldiers disperse throughout the town. He sits before the fire sipping a while before taking out a crystal and holding it to his eye. He stares into it for several long minutes until his hand clenches around the pewter wine cup, crushing it into ruin.

Same cover story. We're recruiting for the war." While trying to subtly gather information about the Cult of Vecna, towards the end of Wealsun Leoavor starts to notice that someone else is doing the same thing. He tries to track back to whomever it is, at first thinking it's a soldier, but soon realizes it's a group  of them. When at last he confronts one, he's able to talk/bribe his way to meeting their commanding officer, and gets to talking to him-- each one carefully toeing the water, trying to find out what the other is looking for without giving away too much himself. But at last they both come to realize that they're on the same trail: searching for the secret Cult of Vecna. *** Drusilia begins celebrates Fortnight's Feast, a two-week holiday of Heironeous, from Wealsun 26th to Reaping 3rd. During that time, Richfest begins! It's a lovely weeklong holiday, with plenty of fresh fruits and summer vegetables, wild game, and religious services; the biggest day of the celebration, Richfest 4th or Midsummer's Day, is also a Godsday, Safeday for Yondalla, the Holy Day of Pelor, and a holy day of many other deities as well. Both Celene and Luna are full the night of the 4th, making it the brightest night of the year, so that even out of sight of torches and bonfires, anyone with low-light vision can see as well as they can on a cloudy day. Richfest 6th is also a holy day of Fharlanghn, called Summer's End, so Leoavor and Limar go celebrate at the Church of Fharlanghn in town.
Xankoris nearly didn't do anything, He just live as normal Shugenja,  quite solitary. He just came out to eat, before back to room and meditate or if it's night time and sky is clear he will get out of room, watching star, before back to sleep 8-hours long again.

So what happens on Summers end? what are we celebrating besides the end of summer? is it about to get colder should we get some real winter gear? -21  knowledge on that  temple yondolla thing.
Josh said: So what happens on Summers end? what are we celebrating besides the end of summer? is it about to get colder should we get some real winter gear? -21  knowledge on that  temple yondolla thing. Summer's End is actually a bit of misnomer; it's celebrating the end of 3 months of low summer, because the 3 months of high summer are about to begin. You've still got months of warm weather yet. :) I didn't realize you'd trained Knowledge (religion)! In that case, you know quite a bit about it. In the faith of Yondalla, matriarch of the halfling pantheon, Godsday is called Safeday, and is considered especially holy (compared to other religions, as most consider it the best day for prayer and religious services). Halflings celebrate with prayer, rest, games, spending time with family, and lots of big meals. As Waterwend is primarily a tallfellow halfling city, the Temple of Yondalla is the biggest religious structure here, and the center of large weekly Safeday celebrations for the locals.

It'll have taken at least a few days to reach this point, so we'll say you opened your account on Planting 12th, which means interest will accrue and compound every month on the 12th (not counting the four weeklong festivals).  Edit: I did not check the calendar carefully, as you guys arrived  on the 12th. So Limar opened his account Planting 15th. By the time we resume, he's earned a gold piece in compound interest! Ohh, that's right. I think I'd just forgotten. No worries. :)
Orrick will move his headquarters to where Leovar is staying if/when rooms become available and will slowly begin to coordinate with Leovar as he becomes more certain that Leovar is working toward the same goals as he is.
Shannon M. said: Kraggan tells Xankoris this: Flask of spider venom materials SF3-9: He says this is worth about 15 gold, though poison materials like this aren't useful to him in his work. Then she asks if he is willing to go over one evening (maybe with Limar if you feel the need for backup/intimidating muscle. Plus safety buddy.) She asks because she stays out of the city at night. Since Xankoris said he'd sell it before the events of Reaping 5th, Cade bought the materials for 7 gold and 5 silver. Drusilia, Kraggan, Leoavor, and Limar each get a share of 1gp, 1sp, and 5cp. The party treasury gets 2gp and 5sp, which I've added to the handout.
Orrick decides to go back to his old Inn. This inn where Leovar is staying is nice....TOO nice. He fears he is losing his edge. To erase the damage caused by too much comfort he will sleep on the floor once he is back at his old room and the next day he will have his men train with him rigorously until he is ready to drop. Then he will visit the market and try to find someone to fashion double weight wooden weapons and shields for he and his men to practice with from now on. And in the evening he will take a run in full armor to eradicate the last vestiges of comfort from his stay at the luxurious inn. He asks that they keep him updated on the Balmon matter and to feel free to come to him for anything else they might need.
