Errands in Town

On Godsday, Planting 25th, as Limar is leaving Underbough's Underwriting with his bulging bags of coins, he runs into three halflings that are shorter than most in Waterwend--lightfoots, smaller and stouter, and more common in most places. One of them looks vaguely familiar, and hails him.  "Hoy there! You're Limar, right, the Wayfinders' dragon?" he asks, with a cheeky grin. He's lightly armored, with crossbow and dagger on his hips, and seems somewhat powerful. "I'm Garion, from Black Sabbath. I think we've met once before, aye? In the spring, maybe?" His two companions look more ordinary, though one has the toughened look of a career soldier.
maybe, I remember you guys killed puelossi, good job on that.
Josh said: maybe, I remember you guys killed puelossi, good job on that. "That was a hell of a fight, I'll have to tell you the story of it sometime. But today, I wanted to introduce a couple old buds of mine, who'd like to take service with you. This is Miles Thorngreen," he gestures to the one with the toughened look, then to the other: "...and Caden Redleaf. They're good fellas, and I can vouch their honesty." Caden gives you a small, polite bow, and Miles nods, saying "It's an honor to meetcha, m'lord. Cade and I been workin' for a councilman here for the last few years, but he had a run-in with an assassin last week, and the rest of his family's packin' up to leave the Catacombs behind. We figured maybe it's time for a change, with the rumors of war and all, and a fort is easier to defen' than a logwall. I'm a house guard, and Cade here's a bit softer, but good at all manner of trades."

Limar will meet Alton when he can, write up the letter and send those merry 3 on their way. and go visit his criminal contacts cade or welby and jasime see if there is anything new there.
Josh said: Limar will meet Alton when he can, write up the letter and send those merry 3 on their way.  After you meet with Garion's friends, you let Merla know you plan to send them with her nephew, and she sends one of her older grandchildren to go find him. Alton has a dark and scruffy look, but gives you a respectful half-bow. "Thank you for accepting me into your service, m'lord." He, Caden, and Miles go for a drink to get to know each other and make plans for their departure. Josh said: and go visit his criminal contacts cade or welby and jasime see if there is anything new there. That Godsday afternoon, the 25th of Planting, you head into the Red Light District  and to the Church of Nerull . Cade Underbough, one of the identical twin high priests, welcomes you in. "Wellby's sleeping in, to prepare for tonight's rituals. Perhaps you'd like to rejoin the church, and take part? Or just attend as a guest? We're going to be making a special offering and praying for aid against the raiders."
is it another human sacrifice? think i'll skip.
Josh said: is it another human sacrifice? think i'll skip.  "Suit yourself," he shrugs. "But when death comes knocking at the gates, it's best to have the Reaper on your side." Heading over to The Kitten's Purr , you get a few queer looks from the few customers and working girls in the taproom this early in the afternoon. The bartender tells you Jasime is with a client right now, but that you're welcome to wait.  A high elf woman with pale skin and auburn hair, whose tattooed-on makeup doesn't hide how strung out she looks, sidles up to you. "I didn't know Jasime serviced dragons," she says in an addict's drawl. "She charge extra for that?"

welp if our plan works we'll be the ones knocking, hows your clergy doing with all the raids? -sure i've got a week to kill and Limar has how ever long it takes to finish eating his gold, waiting isn't going to kill us. She might, I wouldnt know never asked about it. I'm Limar, what is your name?
Josh said: welp if our plan works we'll be the ones knocking, hows your clergy doing with all the raids? Cade grins maliciously. "You didn't hear it from me, from a certain regular attendee of our services has been calling in some favors, gathering swords about her... if the raiders do take the city, they won't hold it easily. These red lanterns cast deep shadows," he finishes mysteriously, gesturing to the red-glass lamps in the windows, like the ones throughout the district. "How about this plan of yours , eh? Can you spare some of the juicy details?" Josh said: She might, I wouldnt know never asked about it. I'm Limar, what is your name? "Ielenia," she says, with a sleepy smile. "You got any fairy dust? I'd be yours all day for a bump, even if I gotta share with Jasime." Knowledge (local) and Craft (poisonmaking) apply, trained only.
It involves dispersing the thousand or so bugbears, goblin and werewolves north of waterwend by taking out their leadership and replacing it. I don't suppose you feel like volunteering?  I have no fairy dust, how long does it take for clients to be be done?
Josh said: It involves dispersing the thousand or so bugbears, goblin and werewolves north of waterwend by taking out their leadership and replacing it. I don't suppose you feel like volunteering?  Cade laughs at the sheer audacity. "Take off the head of the hydra, eh? Just be mindful that two more don't grow to take its place."  He rubs his smooth chin, thinking... "Nerullians are more the type to work from the shadows, but I suppose given our history, I might be able to help you a bit. Come by before leave for the battle, and I'll give you a blessing from the Gravelord to help with the slaughter to come." Josh said: I have no fairy dust, how long does it take for clients to be be done? Ielenia looks disappointed, but shrugs. "Depends on the man. But most are spent in less than an hour."
Will do. Good thing I've been working on my patience. 8 spot to look around while waiting, what kind of security they got and any noticeable people coming or going?
Josh said: Good thing I've been working on my patience. 8 spot to look around while waiting, what kind of security they got and any noticeable people coming or going? There's a bouncer by the door who looks a bit tougher than a typical guard, and the bartender seems like the type who keeps a weapon under the counter to drive out troublemakers. While you're killing time there, you notice Garden Payne, the merchant whose ship you saved from a fire last year, come out of one of the backrooms with a human woman who has ink-black skin and wiry black hair, and wears only a translucent silk slip. They chat a bit on the other end of the bar.  At last, Jasime comes out of the back as well, in the company of Black Sabbath's now-solo leader Draz, a grizzled human man with long black hair and a badly scarred face.

Josh  said: -one more thing Cade, I head a really long time ago of a cleric who did business with you church but refused to reveal who they worshiped any idea who they were? where they went? Cade ponders, thinking back... "It does ring a bell. There was a half-elf cleric who did some business in the red light district last year... old fellow, pretty short, but a skilled thief. As I recall, he refused to play by the rules here and made some bad enemies, then hightailed it upriver with hired knives hot on his heels. I haven't heard any word of him, since then. Might be he didn't make it far, but if he did, he'd be wise to stay there." Josh  said: Hey Jasime over here, been waiting on you, How have you been? and Draz? don't think we've been formally introduced I am limar. How much for a round Barkeep? Jasime gives you a freckled smile, but Draz is a little startled to see a dragon at the bar. "It's been a while, Limar. I'm a little insulted that none of you took me up on my offer." She feigns a pout, then laughs. "Draz, this is Limar of the Wayfinders." The scarred warrior nods slowly, seeming to finally recognize you. "Ahh, yes... I've seen you about town, I think. I'm the leader of Black Sabbath, Draz. They call me Draz Tinear, for the time a sprite tried to enchant my whole party with a bewitching song... I was the only one who didn't care for the music, and drove the little shit off with my swords." The bartender produces a bottle of elven wine and sets it on the bar. "11 gold for a bottle of fine Glemmerian vintage to share, m'lord. Only the best for Waterwend's heroes." Sense Motive applies.

Josh said: maybe when I'm older, Today I just stopped by to see if you heard any interesting news lately from your customers. interesting story, I'm not the leader of the wayfinders and they call me Limar. sense motive 16. "Hmm..." Jasime thinks, leaning against the bar in nothing but a short skirt and unbuttoned vest that shows the freckles down her sternum and flat tummy. "Well, there's been no sign of the cult of Erythnul resurging here since you all wiped them out last fall. Lots of talk about the raiders attacking the docks and trade ships... some merchantmen I've been with lately have been considering moving their operations to Treefall or Bowhery, or that new fort of yours. Apparently Talys Grotto was hit particularly hard by the winter after the Storm. One sellsword was telling me the town is little more than a village now... and he mentioned there've been rumors of a new evil cult forming there, very secretive." The Tinear nods, eyeing the wine bottle with interest as he fixes his rumpled clothes. "I've heard that too, about Talys Grotto. Some say that Riceen, that evil druidess, has led some of her followers into the haunted forest of Izalith not far from there, trying to claim it for herself... can't be good news for the village, either. Might be next summer it'll be little more than a ruin." As for the bartender, you get the feeling he's trying to push the most expensive drinks the bar has, since you've got a reputation as a wealthy adventurer. Josh said: -stop by ryellys wondrous vault to see if he has anything new or interesting. On Waterday, Planting 26th, you stop by the shop to see the portly, middle-aged tallfellow halfling Ryelly Underbough. "Hello again, Limar! Pleasure to see you as always," he greets you, all smiles. "Oh, yes, yes, I've got some nice new treasures." He shows you a pair of circular crystal lenses. "These are called the Eyes of the Eagle. For only a few thousand gold, they amplify one's vision quite powerfully. And these are Bracers of Armor," he says, indicating a set of red gold armbands engraved with softly glowing runes. "They project a field of magical force around you, powerfully protective... I've heard they gird a man as well as a suit of scale mail, without the cumbersome weight. Quite pricey though, more than 1600 platinum." Josh said: -is it cade or welby this time? spot 26 for any difference. Could you look at these vials of gel? You're fairly sure it's Cade... they look and dress almost completely identical, but your keen draconic senses pick up some subtle clues. "Sure, let's see what you've got." He leads you into a backroom, and sets to work with what looks like alchemical laboratory equipment, testing drops from a few of the vials. "Mm... these two light greenish ones are sassone leaf residue, deadly contact poison, but with a mostly delayed effect. These two with the gray powder are lich dust, very powerful muscle relaxer, you put it in food or drink. The silvery gel is drow sleeping poison, just a sedative. And this one," he says, showing you a vial of black powder, "this is dark reaver powder. Ingested, it's almost always lethal. Very, very dangerous. I'll buy them off you, if you're selling. The market's been growing, as people prepare for a possible invasion." Josh said: Hiskel will try and buy an scroll of flight.  At Verrel and Arral's Quill , you speak with the tallfellow halfling wizard Arral Highhill. "We don't have any in stock, but I could scribe one for you. 394 gold should cover it." On Starday morning, Planting 22nd, Xankoris is feeling somewhat better from a good night's sleep. Nell helped him to her room at the Harlequin's Goblet , Waterwend's most popular inn, after the previous night's battles to watch over him while he slept. "How are you?" she asks, with a clawed hand laid gently over one of his. "Does it still hurt? I checked your wounds during the night, and they didn't seem to have reopened."

Limar takes the wine for 1 platinum an 1 gold. Which merchants? I'll be happy to introduce them to kraggan, she might be interested in more passive income for the fort. I've never been to Talys grotto, although kraggan might be interested in this druid. -How do you manage to get expensive items like these?  put the poison in the loot thread see if anyone else wants it first. hiskel pays the gold.
"No, I feel a lot better now," said Xankoris while glancing around (Spot check: 26). He pulled his hand back slowly and asked: "I think I will go to the guard house now, do you want to go with me?"
Josh said: Limar takes the wine for 1 platinum an 1 gold. Which merchants? I'll be happy to introduce them to kraggan, she might be interested in more passive income for the fort. The barkeep sets out 3 glasses, so Jasime and Draz toast with you. The wine is rich, sweet, and dry, a very fine elven vintage indeed. Jasime grins. "You didn't hear it from me, but... a fella named Lordran, and one named Jory Cordswood. Small-time merchants, but might be worth your time to get their interest. From the sound of things, Waterwend's becoming less and less attractive to the merchanters with all these raids lately. Might be the Solids will get their way at last." Knowledge (local) applies.   Josh said: -How do you manage to get expensive items like these?  Ryelly chuckles humbly, thumbs in his suspenders. "Long years of experience, my boy. I learned when I was a young man that when it comes to arbitrage, you need either large volume or large values, and I focus on the latter. I'm lucky to make one sale in a month, but the profits from each are quite  substantial! And I've made a name for myself, over the years... travelers know to come to my shop when they've found relics of great value to sell, or want to invest their coin in solid assets." Josh said:   put the poison in the loot thread see if anyone else wants it first. Added to the Loot thread's top stickied post, with Cade's quoted prices! Josh said: hiskel pays the gold. Arral counts it out, and bites a few of the gold coins. "Looks good. Come back in a few days, and I should have it ready." Ritt K.  said: "No, I feel a lot better now," said Xankoris while glancing around (Spot check: 26). He pulled his hand back slowly and asked: "I think I will go to the guard house now, do you want to go with me?" The room is one of the smaller private ones at the Goblet , comfortably furnished with a feather bed, chamberpot, desk, stool, and wardobe. Some medical supplies are laid out on the desk, as well as what looks like Nell's spellbook, inkpots, a quill, and blotting paper. Nell looks relieved at the news, and gives you a confident smile that suits her strong features better. "I'd love to." A warm rain is falling as the two of you set out from the inn, so Nell casts a spell to conjure up a waxed canvas parasol in the Rokugani style, which does a fine job of keeping the rain off--as long as you two walk close together. Spellcraft and Sense Motive apply. "I saw a painting once of a woman carrying one of these... she was wearing the same sort of dress you ordered for me yesterday. Did I get the look of it right?"
Spellcraft check: 20, Sense Motive check: 20 "Of course, you did. But to be honest, I think you're already very beautiful, just the way you are."

Ritt K. said: Spellcraft check: 20, Sense Motive check: 20 "Of course, you did. But to be honest, I think you're already very beautiful, just the way you are." You recognize what she cast as a minor creation  spell, with a significant amount of craftswomanship involved. And you can tell that her choice of solution was an attempt to flirt with you, to show an interest in your culture and life.  She smiles broadly, unfurling the parasol overhead to shield you both from the rain as you walk to the guardhouse. "You have a silver tongue, you know that, Xankoris?" As you come into the guardhouse, Nell pauses at the door to shake the rain from her parasol. The tallfellow halfling clerk on duty at the desk gives you a bored look. "What can I do for you, sir?" Josh said: I'll look into them later,Enjoy the wine, If you ever decide you've had enough of Waterwend your welcome at the Waypoint fort. "Much obliged, Limar. We just might do that," Draz says, toasting you. "Would that I could," Jasime sighs wryly, downing her glass. The word on Lordran and Jory is that they're both independent river merchants, captain types who own their own ships and travel along the rivers trading between the cities and tiny towns. Honest enough men, most people say, though there are a few rumors that Jory smuggles a bit when business is thin. Like many of the merchants based in Waterwend, the rumors agree with Jasime's take: they're looking for a new port of call, one safer from the violence growing in Waterwend and Bowhery. You have some time to ask around in the evening on Planting 27th. The following Freeday, the last day of Planting, before you set out to scout the warcamp again for Cora Underbough, you stop by Frimin & Asgeifr's Armaments  to pick up your supplies. "Ah, Limar," Frimin Moonbrook greets you, "Good timing. Azzy just finished work on your order last night."  She brings out a bundle of canvas and unties it, and shows you the ornamental sets of weapons and armor. Each set is detailed in a different color of chromatic dragons, as you requested. The workmanship isn't master quality, but it's definitely at least journeyman level, with simple patterns painted on each shield rather than sigils. "Is this to your satisfaction, Limar?" Frimin also appraises the helm and gems for you after that. The helm is worth about 60 gold pieces, the gems are a red spinel worth 90 gold pieces, a tourmaline worth 120 gold pieces, a peridot worth 70 gold pieces, a zircon worth 30 gold pieces, and a citrine worth 20 gold pieces. The helm also contained 231 gold pieces, 52 platinum pieces, and 36 silver pieces.

Limar will try to approach Jory ,having a smuggler could be useful in the future,  and offer to introduce him to kraggan. I'm not sure how much room we got to spare at the keep ,but I'll let kraggan know of Lordran if shes interested in more. yes these will do fine, I dont think they get much finery in the stonefare. That is more than I was expecting, time to go shopping 200 gold and 10 platinum to buy the supplies needed for a shrine of Astilabor.  -and try to get 5 holy wooden symbols of AStilabor for 5gp are at least have them carved up so I can ask Nerosian to make them holy next time I see her.

Kraggan is quite interested, and goes to check out Lordran on her own on Flocktime 1st, but asks Xankoris to come along and help negotiate. She also buys some spare keys at Jackson's , the local pawnshop, and bribes the raven with one. Luckily, Jory is still in town. You find him at the Docks on Flocktime 1st, supervising his crew loading up his ship. Like most people, he's a little startled at first until he recognizes your sigilry. "Ah, yes, that dragon who works with the Wayfinders... I've seen the statuette of you on the Shrine of Bahamut . What can I do for you, sir?" He's a half-elf, middle-aged, wearing good cloth and a gold ring.  Josh said: That is more than I was expecting, time to go shopping 200 gold and 10 platinum to buy the supplies needed for a shrine of Astilabor.  -and try to get 5 holy wooden symbols of AStilabor for 5gp are at least have them carved up so I can ask Nerosian to make them holy next time I see her. You're able to get all the basic supplies needed on Planting 27th, though it'll be a pretty bare bones shrine by Astilabor's standards.  You also get the holy symbols made, though it costs 5gp and 5sp total--as usual, things are more expensive in Waterwend than in most settlements. Holy symbols in general don't need any kind of special magic, though, they're just an aid to prayer, and divine spellcasters can use them as a physical link to their deity, though that's more an ability of the caster given to them by their deity. The one Nerosian made for you is special, imbued with additional powers of its own thanks to your covenant. While you're at Ryelly's Wondrous Vault  on Waterday, just as you're about to leave, he says "Ah! Before you go, I got one more thing in recently that might be of interest to you. It's called a Gathering card, part of a magical game, I hear..." He takes a small paper card out of his breast pocket, and shows you: Ritt K. said: Max said: You recognize what she cast as a minor creation  spell, with a significant amount of craftswomanship involved. "Tell me more about your clan," she says, strolling with you through the warm rain, linked arm-in-arm; an odd sight to passersby, surely, between her curled ramshorns and the several inches of height she has on you. (Diplomacy check: 33) The clerk frowns and squints at your badge, until he recognizes you. "Well... she's under special guard, but I suppose I can make an exception for a member of the Wayfinders." He summons a guard, who takes you down into the dungeons. The assassin is chained hand and foot to the wall of a cell at the very back, with four guards about her. She's been stripped naked, most of her disguise removed, and you can see the sinewy, hard muscle of her well-trained body. "After they found five hidden weapons on her, they just took her clothes to be safe," your escort tells you. "She's a dangerous one, so mind yourself. Killed one guard during processing, and wounded another. Doesn't seem to have any magic, but she's got all sorts of tricks." The goblin woman lifts her head slowly to meet your gaze, her yellow eyes full of malice and danger. "I see you've made quite a recovery," she says flippantly. "Shame I didn't know about that ghost thing of yours... it's the only thing that blocked my dagger, so far as I could tell." Inside your heart, Siwan whispers 'be careful... she is full of death.' Josh said: I've never been to Talys grotto, although kraggan might be interested in this druid. Kraggan asks around about Riceen, and learns that she's a half-orc who serves one of the Great Powers. Rumor is that she's been feuding with the Witch of Izalith for control of her forest, and is bent on the destruction of civilization so that all races can return to nature. Kraggan shares the info with the Deathwalkers, as well, since Talys Grotto is one of the Three Cities of the northern Catacombs along with Strongtown, their home base. Xankoris, will you go with Kraggan to meet Lordran? And do you also want to go with Jonas and Garion to speak to the city council?

At the Church of Fharlanghn there, the human ranger Barenzia tells you the heart of the Red King's territory is about 25 miles north by 5 miles east of Bowhery, just north of Moonshadow's lands. She also shares the latest news: There have been some more small raids from Zorall's servants and boats of hobgoblins coming upriver since the 105th Squadron arrived, but they've helped repel them--however, Moonshadow's grimlocks have not taken part in these, and some people believe they might have abandoned the war after Silverlime's death in the last major battle. Borg is disappointed, as he's enjoyed the battles, and has earned a nasty new scar across the bridge of his nose which he's quite proud of, but he obeys. Old Murnig welcomes you in for tea, and discusses the problem with you. "It's possible, but difficult. As long as you have a spell to unpetrify them, the type of mineral shouldn't matter. The hard part is fitting the replacement on perfectly. Many types of stone cleave unevenly, so you either need to carve the end of the stump exactly right, or use magic. A stone shape  spell can do it, but leaves the outcome more to chance than skill. If the fit is imperfect, you'll need healing magic ready, and even then they might lose the limb."
Max  said: "Tell me more about your clan," she says, strolling with you through the warm rain, linked arm-in-arm; an odd sight to passersby, surely, between her curled ramshorns and the several inches of height she has on you. "My clan? Well, Let's see..." Xankoris has a flashback of his old days and said: "Crane clan was known throughout the land for its great duelists and artisans, sword and swordsmith. Our land is the most beautiful and bountiful in all the Empire, Some claim our lands are the finest because Lady Doji was the favorite sibling of the first Hantei Emperor, But it's because our people have worked very long and hard to ensure the beauty of our home, cultivating it for centuries in the name of the Emperor. That's what all I can say in such a short time." Max said: The clerk frowns and squints at your badge, until he recognizes you. "Well... she's under special guard, but I suppose I can make an exception for a member of the Wayfinders." He summons a guard, who takes you down into the dungeons. "Shame I didn't know about that ghost thing of yours... it's the only thing that blocked my dagger, so far as I could tell." Inside your heart, Siwan whispers 'be careful... she is full of death.' 'Got it.' He acknowledges. "First, that was not 'ghost thing'. Second, What's your name? Actually... I should introduce myself first. I am Asahina Xankoris. Have you eaten breakfast yet? Because I haven't, Do you want breakfast?" (Sense Motive check: 14, Diplomacy check: 28) Max said: Xankoris, will you go with Kraggan to meet Lordran? Yes, Xankoris will go with Kraggan to meet Lordran and he will also go with Jonas and Garion to speak to the council On Planting 27th, the day after the first war council, Jonas and Garion join you in heading to the Town Hall  where the city council meets. It's a fancy building of marble and brick, though not as nice as  The Otterman , the  Merchants Guildhall , or the homes of merchant lords. At the desk, the receptionist tells you that the council is in emergency session, and you need an appointment to speak during their sessions anyway. Garion asks when the next is available, and she opens a dusty leather book, scanning down the page... "In three weeks, Flocktime 19th. That's a Waterday. Shall I put your names down, sirs?" Garion gives Jonas a sideways look, and he subtly nudges you forward to do your thing. On the last day of Planting, you and Kraggan find Lordran having lunch at Madame Mystique's , a tavern and brothel operating out a huge, converted cargo ship anchored permanently at The Docks . The rock gnome captain is eating raw oysters and chatting merrily with a pale-skinned and pretty tallfellow halfling girl wearing nothing but a thin human-sized tunic that drapes appealing over her lithe body. On the way, Kraggan explained that she wants your help convincing Lordran to make The Stone River Waypoint his new main port of call, since it has been untouched by the war and is a growing trade center. Josh said: That you  consider the waypoint fort for a new place of port. "The Waypoint? ...ah, now I recall. There are rumors going around that your people renovated the Fortress of Pelor into a holdfast or somesuch. Isn't it way up in the Hills of Light, though? I'm a river merchant," he says, gesturing to his ship. Josh said: any idea how far the limits on this technique can go? they were a lot of statues down there what if it were just the head recovered? Old Murnig strokes his beard thoughtfully. "Generally with transplantations, the more you have to replace, the lower the chance of survival... I'd say it's theoretically  possible to build someone a whole new body that way, but I wouldn't bet coppers to gold that they'd come back alive."
We have added a canal and docks during the renovation

They're typical soldiers, usually well-blooded but not very disciplined, and most charge about 2 silver a day. If you gathered up every available swordhand, they might number a few dozen. As far as more powerful soldiers go, you hear some rumors about various adventurers in the area who might be willing to take up arms for the right price, though that would likely range from 200-1000 gold pieces each: a drow duelist named Si'dunn, a gnome herbologist and druid nicknamed Leafsneeze, a hardened human soldier named Greysha Steelborn, a dwarven gish named Roggek, a human psion named Hurloon, and a wood elf barbarian of few words named Heian. There's also a party of powerful and storied adventurers calling themselves Ice-Nine who've been plying their trade along the Orthan River lately, a might be willing to help for the right price; from the tales, they sound about as powerful as you guys, though with a less heroic reputation and more of a specialization in semi-aquatic terrain.

You've done enough, ratcatcher, stay out of this case from now on, or the next time I'll have you fitted for a pair of manacles." Gesturing to the guards, he says "Get him out of here." The guards nod silently, and lead you out of the guardhouse.
In between resting and being healed on the Godsday after the battle at Lang Bridge , you spend some time with the other adventurers in town and learn more of the night's events. The skies are cloudy with a haze of smoke, and church bells are ringing everywhere in desperate prayer. You get to know the members of Ice-Nine, a party of powerful mercenary adventurers finally hired by the City Council at your urging. The leader, the sea elf Sandar Silverkelp, is skilled with dual-wielding a scimitar and sickle, and wears a suit of magical sharkskin armor made from the mount of a sahuagin warchief he slew in battle. Their bard, a busty woman named Iggy, tells you the tale with great skill. One of their members stays cloaked and hooded, though the sharper-eyed among you notice the horns concealed beneath her hood, marking her as a tiefling like Nell--she's even bustier than Iggy, and displays an impressive amount of cleavage marked with battle scars, perhaps to help distract further from her horns. Joe, a bare-fisted boxer, is a man of few words, with hard eyes, hard muscles, and a buzzcut. Rounding out the crew is JJ, a high elf dressed in coppery dragonhide breastplate, who's one of the few refusing alcohol at the celebrations of your first victory. You learn that they specialize in semi-aquatic combat with their launch Telly's Kiss , and spent a while in Blackreach looking for trouble along the shores of a deep underground lake there. When the skirmishes between the Deathwalkers' allies and Jorvasskar down there grew too troublesome late last year though, they returned to the surface to sell their swords along the rivers, though Sandar and JJ had to find new animal companions. Based on debriefing and the observations of his scouts, the Red King believes there were a similar number of losses on both sides. However, these results can be misleading... the 40 or so werewolves Grizzled One lost at the bridge were more valuable soldiers than most of the infantry who fell fighting them, so it bodes well for the defenders. Rumor is that the enemies will likely decide that the cost of taking the fortified bridge will not be worth the benefit of using it to rapidly transport their troops, and will try to send their soldiers across the river directly. There are stories going around of hobgoblins and slaves building rafts on the north shore of the Orthan River , which seem to support this view. There's also a story going around that Kraggan gave the Red King a piece of her mind about him having used her Wayfinders as bait on the bridge, but it's undeniable that your party's reputation as skilled warriors has grown from your efforts there. There's a ceremony that evening to honor those who proved themselves in the battles: Paul Redhand is promoted to a division commander, and Garl is knighted. An infantrywoman of the Red King's named Deandra, who helped kill three werewolves, is promoted to squad commander and entitled Wolfslayer. A Terolus Army infantryman named Harmon who held the line through all 3 waves is awarded the Medal of Heroism by his commander. A town guard named Lyle Leafgallow who captured 5 hobgoblins is promoted to sergeant by the Council. The dead are gathered and mourned (including about 20 Terolus Army infantry, 100 of the Red King's men, Rianne the warrior-poet, and Limar's follower Eberk Holderhek), before being given to the river by Eldon Underhill, the priest of Urogalan, in Waterwend tradition. Borg fought very bravely, and the vague suspicion that some of the Red King's men held for him (based on his race) has turned to admiration.

I can give you 45 for it, or 54 off your next purchase." Each copy costs 4gp total in materials and labor, and should take a few days. "For fun, eh? I always love a good prank, or a new riddle. Do you know any good ones?" He's also quite pleased with your offer of the book, accepting the gift eagerly. He's returned to his humanoid form, though he has a wild, shaggy look about him, and is even hairier than most dwarves. He spits at your feet, baring yellowed teeth with longer canines than a dwarf should have. "The Grizzled One will sack your city, and free us all! Those who keep faith will be rewarded... "This is an elven blade, made by a master smith from the capital unless I miss my guess. See this wooden coin worked in the pommel? It's a Glemmerian ash coin, elven currency. I'd say it's worth about 33 platinum altogether." Like the other churches in town, the Church of Pelor is overflowing with congregants praying for succor and wounded soldiers recuperating. Liman's underpriests are hurrying around, but the human high priest in his cloth-of-gold robes always has time for the Wayfinders. "I do have a few texts about basic medicine, yes... let me see..." he leads her over to a small bookshelf and skims the handful of titles there. "Here, this should help. Would you like to borrow it?" Josh said: well there is option number 4, execution, if xankoris still wants to do that otherwise we'll see if you still have that bravado after the fluffy one has his head toted through the city.  Veitm sneers at you confidently. "Your defenders won't hold against the combined might of my lord and Gurak. I shall see it burned and ravaged! You have no  idea how savage the Grizzled One can be... he was bitten as a child by Zanzibar the Mad himself , and rose to lead one of the greatest packs in all Terolus. He even wields silvered weapons, fearless of their bite!" Josh said:   How much would you pay for the scimitar?  23 gather info w/ 1 gold to try an find a healer kit with less uses an cost less. - then go settle down an read the physik book. "165 gold for it if you want cash, or 231 worth of store credit," Frimin answers, scratching her nose.  After asking around a bit, you find a battle-medic among the Red King's infantry who's willing to sell you a healer's kit with 8 uses left for 44 gold pieces. You also learn that one of the acolytes at the Church of Fharlanghn, grateful for your kind donation of the boots, is willing to sell you 4 uses of his healer's kit for only 21 gold. The book is rather old and well-worn. The Common it uses is archaic in places, but it has a lot of oddly stylized diagrams and drawings to help clarify techniques and basic anatomy. Roll an Int check to see how well you can interpret the outdated language.

"Most of my binders are on sailors, who've been shipped out lately. The river traders have been avoiding our port since the raids became frequent. I've had to pay out some on town guards, but Waterwend doesn't have an army of its own, so most of those dying in the battles are mercenaries." She seems to take the hint, and gives you a knowing smile as she puts your coins into a coffer. "It's always a pleasure doing business with you, Limar. I'll give the book a good read-over." Asking around, you hear rumors of lots of shady profiteering going on. The siege has caused the local economy to shift wildly over the last few days: black markets are booming, while merchants are selling hoarded weapons, ammunition, healing supplies, and food at a high markup. Crime is also increasing as people grow more desperate and there are fewer city guards to keep the peace. A few criminal types suggest that there could be a tidy profit for you after the war, if you're willing to invest in their ventures. Josh said: We think the turncloak is Kendling, he tried to betray the companions in bowhery to a necromancer an now leads Zoralls forces against it. Kaladesh nods slowly. "I heard about that, about a year ago... so the 'red of a king' would mean red with blood from his conquest of Bowhery. I don't understand the 'white and then gray' part, though. 'He lures away the cats...' maybe the cats  are the defenders, and the rats are the commonfolk? Did he do something to lure you away from Bowhery?" Josh said: the scimitar is yours for 165 gold, may you find it a nice home. intelligence-7 Frimin counts out the coins, then takes out a whetstone and oilcloth to sharpen and polish the scimitar. "Is there anything else I can help you with today? We have some smaller arms and armor too, if you like, and magical weapons that resize to suit the wielder." She gestures to a spear hanging on the wall, with a leaf-shaped head. "This one might suit you. Her name is Leafsower, a magical elven spear. She can heal herself slowly, if kept wrapped in leaves." You get the basics of the book, at least, and learn a few new or improved techniques for treating wounds.
