So good to see that this is worked on! And we better understand what some of the issues might be.
Thank you so much AllHandsOnDeck! Am honestly happy that now this item is getting more traction, and fingers crossed we will get a reliable and most welcome way to move folders and content from a game to the next :))
So happy to see some progress with this :)
BUT if the Database ID is the same, does that mean if a character is transmogrified and CHANGES in the new game, it is also changed in the original game it came from? AllHansOnDeck said: In order to deliver this feature, there are two paths that diverge. They are both valid takes, and it really comes down to preference. Right now, when something is Transmogrified it keeps the same database ID, which is useful for things like updating a backup copy of a character. That ID is the same if it's in a folder or not in a folder or in a different folder from the source game. But that means that when we add Transmogrify Folders functionality, sending a folder that contains an item that has been transmogrified before (and therefore shares the same ID), we have a few possibilities. Please let your opinion be known by filling out this form for the scientific collection of opinions . I'm going to leave this form open either until April 16, 2026 or there are 280 submissions, which is half the number of votes for this suggestion at the time of this post.
i really wish that the transmoifer and the journal were able to move groups and open up a mini ingame window like the art tab does why does it work in the app tab do it but nothing else? well on the transmogifier it could use a check box to over write the info on certain things or to transfer a copy onto the new one for instance i have multiple copys of some games and running diffeerent story lines they get pretty divergent, but then when i try cross updating it just turns into a mess

So is this subject no longer " Obstructed" but more so " Researching"?  :)
+1. I have voted for the 2nd option on the form.

Maybe they didn't change the " Obstructed" to " Researching" cus they're so busy working on it?? Right? >>;

Wow, I am not following all the threads in detail, and missed this. Has it been mentioned in any news, blogs or discord at all? I know many who would want to give their opinion. That said, I trust you have enough qualified opinions by now?

I'm very excited by the news of this being worked on. I think the 3 options to choose from when transferring would work best from the sound of it, but honestly being able to copy a folder at all would make things infinitly easier when planning for multi spanning campaigns .
We can now import UVTT files and make even more maps.... But we still do not have an easy way to move them in bulk from one game to another. Can we at least have the working model that was talked about a year or two ago?
I wanted to share an update. In my last post, I mentioned 280 responses to the survey. That would have given a very statistically signifiant number of replies to balance the opinion. As of this morning, there are 28 and there is not  a clear winner. I'm leaving the survey open, so not showing the key to keep from "poisoning the well" for the data. The survey is still accepting answers , and I will need 128 answers from individuals for an unbiased result.  Several of the comments mentioned giving an option, and that is technically possible. However, it also creates many edge cases and expands the scope of the project significantly.
I never voted for this originally, and since I've used the transmogrifier perhaps twice in seven years I'm obviously not the target audience.  But just looking at the options on the questionaire I couldn't pick one, because the implications of those choices aren't listed, and I've no clue what they would be.  I expect I'm not alone. Among other things, I have the same question that TheMarkus1204 asked four months ago, which I haven't seen answered.  What does "have the same ID" mean in practical terms.  Are they the same objcect with only one set of data, or two objects with different snapshots of the same parent (and if so, why would sharing an ID matter)? Personally, if I move something between games I expect it to be a distinct entity from the one in the original (a copy in my terminology) but to maintain relationships with other objects in the new place. So if handout A in game X links to handout B in game X, and both move to game Y, I expect A in Y to link to B in Y, and any edits made in Y remain only in Y (and vice versa). There's no linkage between X and Y. Having said that, if 580 people voted for it but you can't get a consensus, pick one and do it, and you'll proably make half of them happy, which is preferable to making nobody happy. However, it also creates many edge cases and expands the scope of the project significantly. Being able to see what we're transferring (like seeing the folders what's in them etc) to be able to move them is huge. The character storage/vault could have been great for that. But there's no folders for that so organization is  just non existent.  Being able to transfer folders was a simple work around for this issue for many because it's easy to know what's in a named folder.  "Baddies of the swamp" "Dungeon number 4 monsters" etc etc. Rather than trying to remember 100+ names in some cases.  Do we need someone to msg each person? Because this forum has been something wanted for years and then to suddenly expect 300 people to respond to it? Not everyone even knows you need to fallow the forum to get notified when someone responds.
I never did get any word back about anything. :(
Xhan D. said: It's really been SOOO long! hahaha.  They really need folders for their character vaults too. I don't know why they HATE having things organized and easy to move -__-  Like they don't want people to easily keep playing.  Boardroom: "people usually just do one shots so we'll cater to that. " Everyone else: "We'd play more and spend more time on the system if it was easier to use and move around our stuffs..."  Boardroom: "So yeah lets make more short term stuffs! Why are people not spending more time on roll20???"
They've explained in earlier posts why this is not a very simple thing to do. It's not malice - it's just hard.

Three years ago Andrew Searles (Roll20 staff at the time) wrote: "As it stands today, we have a working prototype that allows you to move over the the folder from one game to another but you can't see what is in that folder when you're in the Transmogrifier." I remember when the Transmogrifier was listed as "Experimental, use at your own risk." Then the new API engine was listed as "Experimental, use at your own risk." Why can't this three year old prototype be offered under the same banner?  I'm of the opinion that this would be a very simple thing to do. If it cannot be counted on to run correctly, well, it fits in with the rest of Roll20 from my experiences. Did my best to publicize the requested survey. I'm sure that Roll20 folks will say they did not get enough people to respond. After so many years it leads me to believe there will always be a reason why it cannot be done. Why the working prototype cannot be offered. But for only a few dollars more a month I can upgrade and get more space to store things I cannot move easily from game to game... Yes, I am cynical after so long waiting for this.

Yes, I am cynical after so long waiting for this. I've come to some conclusions.  1) There was some high turn overs at roll20 for awhile. So projects would get shelved and someone new would come in and work on something else. This happened alot. So I don't think it's all roll20 trying to ignore the request per say, just whoever is here is tasked with certain things and they're almost always new and don't fully know how some of these things work.  2) They're somewhat afraid of the high file volume movement. Although this is silly since we can copy WHOLE games around which takes up WAY more. And if they implemented folder transfer it would often take up less space because of it. I could instead of copying a whole game just make a new one and move some of the things i need. But they seem not to see it this way at first.  3) Even though it's highly requested we don't have enough repeat people posting on this. People move on pretty quick. myself and a handful of people are the only squeaky wheels. People still care about this. Look at the number of posts and upvotes. But they're busy. They seem to skirt this as a less priority because of this. :/  I'm not 100% sure why they're so against folders in Characters vault cus that would take care of 90% of this. If i could just store the sheets i need in need folders and then place them where i need them that'd be cool.  The folders transfer for Transmog is the next best thing and quickest. Folder for forest monsters, Ocean monsters, cave monsters etc etc. such a pain tracking down like each name. -__- I'm about to PM everyone on this forum to get them to fill out the survey, and would if i thought they wouldn't at this point say something else was up or not get back to us yet again.  I heavily suggest you contact the devs through proper channels outside the forums. They respond quicker there for any direct questions. I would love if they answered back the forums at least once a month or so.
I think Mr. NumsNnums may have come close to the truth on this, as it applies to many other suggestions. This also explains why most suggestions just sit here and go unaddressed, even the simplest ones to implement. It also explains the mass exodus of people who mostly do not play D&D  going to Foundry. I am on the verge myself, and I have been thinking of this for soem time. I dropped my Pro subscription a few years back. I wish Roll20 luck, but they are certainly shooting themselves in the foot.
