You first need to have your character sheet approved. Once that happens you get a journal entry.

I have a few questions as I try to put together my character. First important one what do they mean when they mention setting up your own tokens and Marcos. I'm completely new to this site and d and d itself. What I know is from skimming the manual 4th edition (unupdated one, doesn't have sorcerers or Druids in it) and from watching livestreams of Critical role (which is very entertaining) From what I've read of the manual 4th edition seems pretty cut and dry, do you guys still allow outside the box thinking? For instance using ice wall in the shape of a slope to catch a falling companion so they can slide safely to the ground. I'm really into creative thinking and was partly what made this game appealing to me.

The checklist should answer some of those questions.

Post on the new character thread to get approval.  Once your character is approved you get a journal entry.  Make macros on that journal entry, ask a DM to look them over and you get a token.  Once you have a token you are ready to play.

I would also highly recommend coming onto skype and asking for a copy of the compendium from one of the members.

You mean they would send me a virtual copy? That would be pretty handy. Once I have the more updated version of the compendium I could better judge what would be the best character for me. Thanks for the tip. One question though, how do I find the other members in skype, I don't know what names they use.

In the rules thread there should be the name for the skype group.  Or you can send me a contact request at gravymattingly.  If you have an idea what you want to play, but don't know how to make it do what you feel like you want it, I can help guide you through picking a race/class/theme/background that matches your character concept.

I have a question in the PHB 2 it mentions Druids wild shape allows you to turn into beasts. Does that include magical beasts? I ask this cause the book mentions Druids being able to turn into a Bullette which is a magical beast. Also is polymorph an unavailable spell for the 4th edition?

There are polymorph spells.  You will want to check out wild shape for information on wild shape.

Thanks for the info, got wild shape figured out. Read all the PHB but no class has the polymorph spell. Only a subtype at most. I think I have my class figured out though, thanks for your patience.

edit: thought I had wildshape figured out but maybe not. The vanilla version doesn't let you use abilities of the creature for instance if I turn into an eagle I can't fly, or if I turn into a spider I can't climb walls or shoot webbing or have a poisonous bite. This severely limits what I can do creatively to solve problems. Any chance you guys allow a revised version if it exists? Cause right now wildshape is very Dissappointing. You don't even get stronger if you take the form a bear for example.

I think I now know which race and class I'm going with but I have an important question relevant to the backstory I'm coming up with. For the narrative, does the goddess Mystra exist? I know she died but they brought her back in 2012. It shouldn't have much impact on the gameplay I hope. I just think haveing her considered still around would be great for my characters backstory.

Never mind I've worked it out, gonna forget Mystra for now, don't want to complicate things for the DM

DandD wiki.com isn't very reputable, because Mousefolk are a Homebrew race.

Caspian: you can use any gods that fit your character well (Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Eberron, etc.)

Caspian: look in the players handbook. There is a list of deities in there.

Exalted feat sounds like 3.5e thing only. Never heard of it in 4e.

Exalted aren't a thing, but I'm going to guess either you misread or someone had expertise aurocorrected.  Expertise feats are ones that give you a scaling feat bonus to attack rolls. 

more than likely misread.  I was doing all of it while extremely tired as I knew I would be unavailable for a few days.  Thank you for the clarification though! 

Hey guys, I'm a newbie around here who is putting together some characters in hopes of jumping into a game eventually, but I had a question:
Are there any roles or classes that don't get a lot of play or that there aren't as many of in the pool of reoccurring players?

I plan on doing the standard thing of making two characters with different party roles so that I can pick which one fits better in the group I end up with, but I wanted to try and pick things that had the least chance of stepping on someone's toes.  Thanks

@ David at Paragon level they seem to be low on defenders at heroic level there seems to be a good mix. maybe slightly lacking in controllers from my experience but it shifts a lot. as far as not getting a lot of play. we don't really put a big emphasis on party optimization so if your the right level for the game then he can come :)

I figured things would be far from optimized most of the time, but I just wanted to make sure I was being useful.  :)

Despite a lot of the negatives I've heard online about 4e druids, one of the two that I'm working on is a sort of in-combat controller druid.  The other is probably going to be a warlock or rogue, because an extra striker can fit into basically any team.

Does Resourceful Presence grant it's damage bonus to all attacks within a single attack power, or just to the next attack made, or does it impact the PC's entire turn of attacks?

It's the attack made with the action point action (s). You could get both the hit and miss effects on a burst power, or on multiple actions granted by an action point (like master of moments), but not the whole turn. 

Welp, I'm going to be the noob here and ask. Can someone help me figure out Myth-Weavers? I have basically always used the 4e Character Builder on Wizards.Com so I am having difficulty figuring out what and how to translate it to the other format. Could talk in skype and get me going please?

Daniel, join the Skype group listed in the FAQ and talk to people in there.  That is your best bet as far as getting help like that is concerned. The short version is to just fill out things where they make sense. Feats go to feats, powers  go to powers, etc. 

is there an easy way to transfer the wizard character created character into my weavers easily, if so how and if not could i get some help on transfering my character, i have access to the character builder by wotc and dont know how to create a otherwise

Not really. just fill in the numbers on your journal entry that correspond to the numbers on your myth-weavers sheet

so i got everything figured out, now do i just need to wait for some dm to want my character or what do i do now?

Sean considering that your character was checked and you were given journal entry now it's time for you to enter the game and work on your macros.

Is there a certain role that there tends to be a dearth? I don't mind building any sort of character, but I was probably going to with a Striker (Githzerai Avenger) or a Striker with some Defender tendencies (Ranger|Warden). But, if we need a leader or controller, I don't mind either way. So, are we missing anything?

The short answer is, no we don't really need anything in particular.  The medium length answer is "if you want to discuss build stuff you should join the skype guild group and talk about it".  The long answer is "Here is the guild census, look at it and make your choices if you want to base it on other people":
