D&D 5E (2024) Character Sheet & Builder by Roll20

Hi Here some issues found while trying to rebuild a lev 13 Monk in the new sheet trial has been done in firefox on a last generation Mac with the last OS. (same effect on chrome just much slower) Maybe some are just ways around I still cannot find Builder It needed a couple of trial to work as in some moments did work properly and in other it did not behave (it feels like It needs A LOT of memory as players with older PC just stay on the dragon sub image for minutes: on first trial just clicked through the 13 level but then subclass could not be chosen (dropdown was empty) retried on a new char by stopping at level 3, selecting subclass was then possible, then up to 13 feats stayed yellow even with everything selected no way of understandingg what was missing (in general we do like the warning that something is missing) Impossible to chose a spell for the fey touched feat as spell list would not appear (flickering set of gray boxes as if not loading) so even spell was yellow anyway saved and PC was created  Sheet   first of all language is a mess: with English set in roll20 but Italian as language on firefox and the system in English, the sheet and info are in English but advanced tools are titled in Italian Adding from compendium... SUGGESTION make it equipped by default it is much more frequent in my opinion How do you change the proficiency? added a ioun stone of mastery via drag and drop but I cannot find a way to do it (basic item modifier does not have proficiency added a short sword +2 and it automatically provides +2 to AC??? but it does not add proficiency in general why the magic bonus ha to be listed in the other bonus and is not a specific field?? added a sun blade and it has the following issues does not add anything neither attack nor damage how to add 2 different attack (strength and dexterity like for the short sword? I see only how to add one if to add the conditional radiant damage versus undead? deflect attack is auto added to the combats as a dex saving throw but no proficiency nor wisdom is added there are in the features list many lines to be deleted as they are (you get your subclass ability)... maybe this is due to the subclass not being from 2024 but is annoying thanks for the effort and is getting better quickly even if we would love it would be quicker Andrea

You should at least get an automated response, but there might not be a personalized response if a large number of people are filing the same issue. --My guess. I'm not privy to the exact internal workings. All I'm really saying is that a Help Center report creates a token that must eventually be resolved. A forum post is easily overlooked, hard to track, and can disappear in a previous page. The team monitors the threads they create, and some of the Forum Champs try to flag the most game-breaking issues by making reports of our own, as a backstop.
Keith - I worked on several Help Desks in my time.  Sadly staff did not always follow correct process.  Many customer-logged tickets were also woefully short on info. Anyway... I reported that links in the Compendium in game went to the external compendium.  This was reported in this thread as resolved.  Just found one that still does - (all) links on the 2024 entry Fighter That is better than some entries that are just blank (well they have a picture but no text) - I forget which I was looking at though

Fighter links open in-game. Can you give me more specific links to test, or try again after deleting cache/cookies? Or is this not a Jumpgate game? Or are you clicking from some other type of link?

Keith It is Jumgate and it's links from those windows you opened, not from compendium listing on the right. (Scroll down a bit)

Ah yes. I see what you mean. Thanks. I remember now I reported this too (after you brought it up earlier), some time ago (I report a lot of bugs and deal with a lot of issues on the forum, and they can get lost after a time. I'm having trouble finding any fix announcement. It's not in the Changelog . I'll see if I can find out any news.

Hello, I'm wondering why attacks for NPCs can't have a description for if they do something after they hit. I wanted to put a description for a creature becoming grappled after it gets hit and I thinks it's weird if I have to put that in another Action since they are linked. Think of something like a Vine Blight. As of now, I think it's better to make NPCs and Monsters in the Player builder than the NPC one. Also because the NPC sheet doesn't let me type in it without clicking dozens of times on the text box. Whereas the Player sheet isn't causing me much problems.

Some more: The attribute tab in the advanced tools is annoying as you go to new editable attributes after the 217 non editable ones... can you put those in a dedicated tab? how do you link resources from one ability to another? in the monk build under both monk focus and flurry of blows there are the available focus points and if you change one the other changes... this is VERY cool. But patient defense does not have the same resource usage so I tried to create a resource with the same name but it is non linked also advanced patient defense is in the combat tab but not in the feature tab builder while creating a 13 level diviner feats stay with warning for no clue review says I did not choose subclass if unselect and select subclass diviner review has still warning and on top diviner slots become unselected but formerly selected spell are non available for selection (but are not in list of selected spell)  even if you select other spell so that all level are green the review says 1 is missing The extra diviner slot is not limited to the divination school sheet cool that in the manage section of spell you can select prepared but I do not see any visual mark that differentiate a prepared one from a non prepared one in the overall list Andrea L. said: Hi Here some issues found while trying to rebuild a lev 13 Monk in the new sheet trial has been done in firefox on a last generation Mac with the last OS. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Cheers.
A couple more problems with the sheet:   - There is no indication on the sheet of the lineage that I can find.    - There is no indication on the sheet, and no way to indicate, which spells come from which feature. Some features allow you to change the spells you got with that feature under various conditions, but there is no way to indicate which spells came from which features and therefore which spells can be changed out. Yes, this was a problem with the 2014 sheet too... but if Roll20 is going to spend time, money and effort into creating a new sheet, they should be willing and able to fix issues like this on the new sheet.    - On the "Spells" tab, when you choose "Slot View", there is no list of spells available to cast for each slot.    - On the "Spells" tab, when viewing the spells with the "Default" view, there is an "i" button and a bubble; the "i" button displays the info to the individual, the bubble displays the info in the chat for everyone to see. However, when looking at the list of spells in "List View", there is only the "i" button.   - On the "Notes" tab, there are placeholders for "Organizations", "Allies" and "Enemies". There is no place for random notes that a player might want to keep such as medals or honors received, information about people (neither "allies" nor "enemies") or places, or other information. On the 2014 sheet, the "Notes" field was a freeform entry allowing the player to put anything there they wanted to remember from session to session.   - If you take the "Goodberry" spell, the Builder puts an entry onto the sheet on the Combat tab "Eat Goodberry" as a Bonus Action to give you 1 health. That's nice. But there doesn't seem to be a way to put it on someone's sheet if they don't have the Goodberry spell. When a Druid (or other character) creates Goodberries, they typically give some to each other character. Those characters should be able to put this Bonus Action on their sheet to eat the Goodberry they were given. Also, I'm not sure why it's on the "Combat" tab - shouldn't this be on another tab for "Out of Combat" actions? The same is true for other spells like "Guidance" which rarely happen during Combat.
I'm building a L3 character by editing a new sheet directly, no character builder. The HP area does not seem to work, which blows my mind so I imagine I'm doing something wrong.  After setting class, species, level etc. I notice that while I can type into the "Current HP" box, it reverts to zero no matter what.  Max HP is disabled.  Using the gear to open the settings for HP, everything is disabled on that tab. I can set my HD, but that has no effect. Any tips?
Glad to see I'm not crazy about the HP not working.
Oct 6, 2024 Update:  My players are beginning to like these new sheets.  However.... 1) I filed a work ticket last week but still haven't received a response on why I can't drag monsters from the compendium to the map - I have to create NPCs every time they face a creature like a goblin or skeleton.  2) Dragging an item from the Art Library does not works on the 'Everything' setting. 3) Adding an attribute to a weapon (i.e. 1d4 Lightning damage) adds the Str or Dex modifier to that damage, even though the 'None' attribute is selected 4) Still don't have Speed listed for the pop-up bubbles on the tokens Anyone found a fix for any of these issues?

OK, so I indirectly figured out how to correct issue 1:  On Google Chrome open 'Developer Tools' (F12).  With developer tools open you can now drag/drop monsters onto your map.  For those that want to know, the error is:  Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'attribs')     at vtt.bundle.1e4b17acd797c080c03f.js:48680:33656     at Array.forEach (<anonymous>)     at V.each.V.forEach (vtt.bundle.1e4b17acd797c080c03f.js:4000:107005)     at Worker.<anonymous> (vtt.bundle.1e4b17acd797c080c03f.js:48680:33058)   Red Archon said: Mr. DM said: Oct 6, 2024 Update:  My players are beginning to like these new sheets. For 1: I had to be using the Jumpgate with the 2014 sheets for NPCs for it to run well, IIRC.

We have it in the sprint, and it's a high priority. At the moment, we have a lot of high-priority items to get to, so it could be a couple of weeks, but I can promise you it's on the list, and we even have an idea for a fix that won't take too long. Thank you for reporting this and bringing it to our attention.
I don't have problems dragging monsters from the compendium to the map. I tried both goblins and skeletons and neither had problems. I think the problem is on your end. I'm also using Google Chrome, and as I said in another message, I have no problems dragging monsters from the compendium onto the map. I don't have to use Developer Tools or anything other than basic Chrome and Roll20. Has anyone had good luck with getting NPCs into 2024 sheets? It seems like I was, at one point, able to drag one onto the play area and it let me “convert” it to 2024. Now I can’t recreate it. I don’t know what I did, but I was super excited when that worked. Now I can’t reproduce it.

They are in the NPC section of the Monster Manual.  (I did manage to drag Guard but of course that was the background, which created a handout) Note: Sheets all now display as wide as Standard, with the background image simply filling more space down the sides when select Compact.

I just tried it, and attacks appear as normal, not as text. The damage buttons also work. Built a Rogue today, and noticed two things: 1. During the creation process I was asked which weapon masteries I was selecting. However, after the creation process was done, I did not see them listed anywhere on the sheet. Maybe I missed which of the many, many, many sub-tabs has this information? 2. Tool proficiencies are listed twice: once on the right side of the sheet (below Armor), and also on the left side of the sheet (below Skills). This seems redundant and unnecessary. The ones on the left are clickable to make rolls for using the tools so I would keep that list and eliminate the list on the right (under Armor).

I note that in the Compendium (outside of games) links from the 2024 Players handbook goes to the 2014 details for spells. I was hoping that someone (Kieth hint hint) could look at the attributes and code an import of 2024 compendium data into 2014 sheet.  But seems the information is not published?

Tried to see if it also happened for me and got this far and it freezes.  Had time to take screenshot and post and still frozen! Maybe because I tried to scroll down using right hand scroll bar.. which scrolled fine.. ? 2nd try  same issue - but this time without moving the wrong scroll bar. Suggestion: When picking Skills, do not just skip over those you already have (e.g. from Entertainer) remove from list like elsewhere! Using a different background, I see issue 2. For issue 1 - is that not the Vex/Nick or whatever listed under properties in Mastery Name beneath Attacks in combat

What was your setup? Jumpgate? I'm using the 2024 sheet, you find mastery under the attack table, you need to turn it on (like the equipped stuff) Once you turn them on, on the attack result you have the "mastery" button Never used the 2014 sheet since the 2024 in out, if you use the 2014, I canno help you Saul J. said: Built a Rogue today, and noticed two things: 1. Built a Monk today. I think the builder has the wrong Skill proficiency choices for the Monk: The PHB lists the choices as: The Builder lists the choices as: Deception, Intimidation, Investigation, Persuasion and Sleight of Hand are not valid choices according to the 2024 PHB. Acrobatics and Perception were granted from the Sailor background. So, even though Perception is not normally a valid choice, it was granted automatically. I still don't understand why the builder has "Monk Monk skill proficiency choice" and "Human Human skill proficiency choice". Why the duplication? And, when choosing a 2024 Human character, after selecting the additional origin feat, the builder still thinks that the step is incomplete for some reason, with no indication of what it thinks is missing. When the sheet is finished, there's an "Effect" called "Martial Arts" that doesn't seem to do anything - it doesn't adjust the Monk's damage to use the Martial Arts die. In the "Attack" section, it still lists a damage of 2 for the "Unarmed Strike" even when the "Martial Arts" effect is on. There is a separate "Martial Arts Attack" on the sheet which has the correct damage, but a Monk has special "Unarmed Strike". And, the sheet lists "No Bonus actions" even though a Monk can make an Unarmed Attack as a bonus action from level 1.
Yes, I somehow missed all of that on the very confusing character sheet... I agree it's not that easy to find things on the new sheet (I think it's due to 10 year of differnt character sheet, I'm playing with people who has never played on roll20 and they find it quite easy to use) ...anyway...I'm still waiting for the level up button...as many other I suppose Saul J. said: Yes, I somehow missed all of that on the very confusing character sheet... I'm creating a new 2024 Fighter - Dhampir character with the Giant Foundling background. I noticed that the builder is forcing 2024 compatibility to the background and the characteristic point allocation. The Strike of the Giant feat is part of if not the key element of the Giant Foundling background and should be an option to choose as the 2024 rule set is supposed to be backwards compatible with ALL pre-'24 5e content. The DM should the one say no to it, not roll20. Same with the characteristic point allocations. Players should not be forced into +1 to 3 skills because they chose a pre-'24 background. They need to have access to the option for +2/+1 option that is part of the pre-'24 race options when selecting a pre-'24 race. It's the DM's place to say Yae or Nae to it. This compatibility thing should be a notice/warning or have a way in character creation to switch on/off; like a toggle. It should not be a forced, especially when there is no published rule set on how to transition 2014 D&D content to 2024 D&D. Please fix.

Bug report: I tried to continue character creation for my Fighter - Dhampir - Giant Foundling, see above. I left the feat field empty and used point buy with the characteristic point allocation empty to add manually later. I continued as normal but when I clicked save and exit, it would not exit and the the characteristics all set themself to all 10s. I'm using the firefox browser on Win10.

(x-posting!) We’ve released automated level up functionality, along with starting equipment, in the new D&D Character Builder !  As we mentioned in our recent blog post , characters created prior to this release will require choices to be remade when leveling up : including Class, Species, Background, and Ability Scores (and any relevant sub choices).  We know this is not ideal, but this is a one time occurance. Any newly created characters you make going forward will easily level up. This is the first of many releases to improve the Character Builder experience. With this release, you will also notice some improvements to the UI/UX of the Builder based on all of your feedback, as well as performance improvements across the board! Known Bugs We’re ensuring this process is working smoothly with 2014 content as well as 2024 content, but you will notice some places where this may not be working as intended with the legacy content.  We are also aware of a few places where certain dropdown selectors are duplicating choices which shouldn’t impact your ability to create your character.  There are also intermittent issues where skills & conditions are not loading onto your sheet when first opening, this is a display issue only and will be corrected if you close & reopen your sheet. Please continue to report any bugs you find so we can get them addressed quickly!
You can do the +2/+1 by just selecting the same characteristic twice. It works just fine. FWIW, the 2024 PHB says that if you choose a species from an older source, other than the new PHB, you do NOT get the species bonuses for ability scores. You get them from the background no matter what, even if the background you choose from a pre-2024 source doesn't include them. See page 38 for details. I think this is what Roll20 is implementing for the 2024 sheet. Pedro S. said: Same with the characteristic point allocations. Players should not be forced into +1 to 3 skills because they chose a pre-'24 background. They need to have access to the option for +2/+1 option that is part of the pre-'24 race options when selecting a pre-'24 race. It's the DM's place to say Yae or Nae to it.

Yup. By setting them up the way they did (the first group has two exclusive choices, that automatically allows +1/+2 or +1/+1/+1, but disallows +3.

with latest update:- BUGS: Width of window still too wide - lots of blank space  (Can change for each character, individually) Adding a feature that recharges at dawn - no option for die roll just full/half/fixed value.  Also don't we then need a Dawn button?  Though what about things that might recharge at Noon, Dusk, Midnight... Getting Gold from two starting options creates two Gold entries in the Inventory.  Cannot add other coin types here, and if add as an item weight has to be a whole number.  Also not in Currencies when manage encumberance - and looks as if intent is that should be able to add currency types here? Drag and drop 2014 magic items with recharge adds them as possessions, not useable items (e.g. Wand of Fireballs).  Adding new defenses - resistance - save button does not work Weapons added during character creation are not set as equipped, so no attack listed. Feedback: It's a lot faster, which is good.   Weapon attacks, included unarmed work. Some dropdowns replaced with a selection screen, which seems a clunky way to do it, but if it is fast is not so bad.  Though the space used vertically is excessive and thus a lot of scrolling needed. Selecting Species and following selections use different mechanisms.  Why does a no-access screen briefly appear before the first screen (direct edit/character designer choice screen)? Can light weapons be added wth 'offhand' option in the same way as versatile are added as both one- and two-  handed?
After the latest update: I find the builder a bit confusing now. For example, when it's time to choose class, you can choose a class from the options on the left, and then there's a big button near the top of the screen, in red, that says "Choose Class". This is obvious. But, when choosing species, it took me a while to figure out that I had to click the option down near the bottom of the screen, next to the progress bar. that said "Select Species". There was no big red button that said "Select Species". The builder should be consistent in how it handles choices. I also find that scrolling down to find the things that have to be selected by using drop downs is confusing and time consuming. It would be easier if the builder just walked me through those choices, rather than making me scroll through to find them. When I was done with the builder, making a Tiefling Warlock with Pact of the Chain as my first-level invocation, the final character sheet did NOT list passive senses (passive Perception, etc.). It also did not list Skills. They were not collapsed... they just weren't there. And there was no way to click on a Skill for a Skill check because they were missing! There is an indication that the Find Familiar spell can only be cast with a 1 hour casting time or ritual. That's not true - the Find Familiar spell can be cast at any time as a Magic action without using a spell slot and without restriction on the number of times per day (which means it takes an action, not 1 hour or ritual). There's also no indication on the sheet that I can forgo my attack to have the familiar take an attack instead, that I could see. There was no place during character creation where Languages were selected. All characters get at least three languages (p. 37): Common and two chosen from the Standard Languages table. Some characters, based on Background chosen, may get more. For Equipment, the Scholar's Pack I got at creation had parts of it broken out - the backpack, ink, ink pen, book, tinderbox and lamp. But, missing were the 10 flasks of oil, and 10 sheets of parchment. For some reason, none of the items received during character creation are listed as "Equipped" so other things, like AC were not correctly calculated or configured. I don't understand why the 15 gp I got as a Warlock, and the 22 gp I got as a Merchant are listed separately. And there's no space for Silver, Copper or any other coin that I might find (or change from a Gold piece when buying items). I tried to create a second character, this time a human wizard. The Strixhaven backgrounds were now there (yay) but INCORRECT. The Strixhaven backgrounds automatically give you a feat based on your school. You do NOT get to choose a feat! So for example, if I choose "Lorehold Student", I automatically should get the Strixhaven Initiate(Lorehold) feat which gives me a choice of two cantrips from a specific list of 3 cantrips, and a 1st level spell that can be EITHER a wizard spell or a cleric spell. Since this was completely messed up, I didn't continue. All in all - the new sheet does look a little more compact and possibly more functional (I'll have to try it out during a game to be sure), but a lot of things were missing or incorrect as noted above.
You can't though. When I am making a character it forces me to select three different ones. If I select strength it won't let me select it again. There was/is a typo on strength in the first dropdown. You need to adjust the stats after the character is finished. It is strenth EDIT: The typo has been fixed. Hel said: You can't though. Saul J. said: You can do the +2/+1 by just selecting the same characteristic twice. It works just fine. The update changed it so you can no longer choose 2 the same in first set, but second set allows duplication of any in first set.  Functionally correct, if a bit at variance to how the PHB describes it.
