D&D 5E (2024) Character Sheet & Builder by Roll20

1) when at 0 and rolling death save from the sheet the text on a nat 20 is misleading Critical Success. Through force of will, your injuries are stabilized. the rules say that you go back to 1 hp while the text seems to imply you go to 0 and stable (like having had 3 successes). nat 20 brings you to 1 properly but that message seems to say something very different. 2) putting a character to 0 from the token does not trigger the death save interface in the sheet (you need to add 1 remove 1 from the sheet itself in that case to see it) 3) 3 successes give you a new couple of option to go to 1 or go to full but 3 failures give you the same that is sort of wrong 4) 3 successes make you stable but there is no way to stabilize. I do like the immediate go to 1 and go to full but please do leave the stabilize button too or if not doable I'd rather not have the goto1 and gotofiull button and immediately stabilize as most of the time a cure will give a number in the middle

William M said: Thanks for your attention. I stand corrected concerning the size requirement rules. The issue is not that the character is small. The issue is that the longbow is requiring a 13 dexterity when it should actually be requiring a 13 strength to hit without disadvantage (due to it being a heavy weapon.) I was wrong about lingering 2014 character size rules. That's incorrect. It should be looking at Dexterity. Here's what the 2024 rules say: "You have Disadvantage on attack rolls with a Heavy weapon if it's a Melee weapon and your Strength score isn't at least 13 or if it's a Ranged weapon and your Dexterity score isn't at least 13." Since the longbow is a ranged weapon, the correct attribute to look at is Dexterity.

There are two issues that might exist longer but just now I ran into: 1. I get skill proficiences for both classes. As I don't have that problem on my fighter/warlock I must assume that this occurs only in certain combinations which is why, I'm giving some information about the character that has that problem: LV1 Artificer/L7 Wizard (abjuration) Species: Gnome (Rock) Background: Custom 2. The same class combination as above (Artificer 1/Wizard 7): I have to little spell slots. Apparently, the artificer spell slots are not counted, I don't know. As a matter of fact on that level, I should have 2 artificer slots and 4 Wizard slots. So, 6 in total. But I have only 4 lv 1 slots in total. Therefore, I have 2 Level4 slots, although the wizard should have only 1 at wizard LV7. Could you kindly have a look into this?

To see how many spell slots you should have for a multiclass spellcaster character, look at the table and rules on page 44 of the 2024 PHB. You add your full-caster levels (7 in your case) and 1/2 of your half-caster levels (rounded up) (so 1/2 = 1) and add them together (7+1 = 8). If you look at the table on p. 44, you'll see on level 8 of the table that you should have 4 level 1 slots, 3 level 2 slots, 3 level 3 slots and 2 level 4 slots. Warlock Pact Magic slots are counted separately.

You are right and I just learned a new thing. I just did not know that rule. Thanks for clarifying! So, that issue ist fixed :-)
If you have the sheet closed and adjust the tokens hp to 0 using the bubbles or some other API like autobuttons, when you open to sheet after to make death saves the death save sections isn't there and doesn't show up until you add and the remove hp again.
Request of a document describing roll template and a sheet fields Hi I did try to revive a few macros I used to utilize a lot for reading players' sheet info on the old sheet I failed miserably both in data retrieving and formatting. In the specific case: the template npcaction does not seem to work anymore and I could not find a way to find spell slots or resources. on the old dnd 2014 sheet building a macro for the non expert was quite easy with just 2 tools: we had a wiki page that described very well and with example all the available templates and most of the fields name were just a mouse-over away over the sheet itself. I do understand the 2024 sheet is very different and I do like it a lot (still a few issues but good speed in addressing them and presence in responding...) but I really miss the documentation that allowed a non expert to build macros in an effective way. I would really love if the roll20 team can provide a document, or a blog page or even a forum thread, that helps us on the new sheet. available roll templates with their structure name and way to read each of the currently available fields thanks Andrea
I agree with Andrea Request of a document describing roll template and a sheet fields

I just want to point out: that is not entirely true. That is to say, in some cases, you do get a skill proficiency choice for your second class when you multiclass. For example, multiclassing into a Rogue gives you a skill proficiency choice from the Rogues list of skills, as well as proficiency with Thieves' Tools as per the 2024 PHB. The same is true for multiclassing into Ranger - you do get a skill proficiency choice. There may be others. So it's not the case that you only get skill proficiencies for your first class. There are exceptions.
Hi i want to underline that performance, that was almost ok for a bit, is getting worse and worse again. i do not know if it is due to passage to level 2 but tonight almost everyone needed 30 second to open the sheet or click an attack and see the effect in the chat. refreshing the webpage solved for a few minutes Andrea
Hello hello, I’ve been following development of the new sheet for a bit and there are many things that are making me consider moving from running games for my players through (hereafter dubbed DB) and the Beyond 20 extension to running in roll20, but there are few major hang ups for me right now: I love how much easier it is to add custom items that integrate into the character sheet on the fly in the new sheet. That being said, with DB having just added party inventory making custom items easily transferable between players and inventory tracking better than ever the lack of transferability of customer items, and thus the inability for me to make a character sheet to be my pre-sorted loot bag that I can instantly transfer as relevant to party inventory I am increasingly hesitant; are there plans to add transferability of items, custom kr canon, between sheets? (by ideally dragging a hat from one open cha sheet onto another, or by having a shared party inventory list akin to DB). It would be neat to have the ability to add custom items/feats made in sheets to the compendium as customs also, rather than quickly smashing it into a sheet and then realising I’ll have to start again if I give it to someone else. second and really the bigger one with all the other great changes the new sheet has brought the lack of the old resource addition space in a place you can see without scrolling away from everything else you want to see frankly sucks. Some thoughts on that Putting the custom resource field back top right would be incredible, potentially with the option of tying to an existing resource? Even just having to right in resources there instead of in the custom item would be vastly preferable to me over having to get my players to remember to scroll away from all their other visual references/change tabs every time. It would be great if custom items could have actions easily tied to resources so clicking them spent the resource. Being able to directly adjust the organisation of the sheet would be awesome; I know that’s probably a real hassle and off the cards for a while but being able to choose what fields were at the top of the screen would be neat. Also to a much lesser extent, the ability to tie stat blocks into the DB sheets to directly access them from the sheet for summons rather than have to search them up or jump across to the journal is just such a nice QoL change. Letting us drag have additional tokens/connect existing sheets with tokens so we can drag from the one sheet onto the scene for these summons/some spells would be incredible but I get that there are probably more boring core elements in focus for development at the moment. Again, absolutely love the visual design and clarity of so much about the new sheets, and it’s come so far from the 2014 design in so many ways; I was genuinely talking with my crew about transferring across until we noticed the novel resource tracking was so concealed and then DB added the party inventory making it an even harder sell. Currently I have one player in r20 on the 2014 sheet specifically because of the incredible custom resource tracking space and the others in DB. i might well still put in the work to make everyone’s characters in r20 just to see what works and doesn’t (have done two and a half of 5 so far) but it’d be a much easier sell if I wasn’t looking wistfully back at that party inventory.

I see you're a pro subscriber, so you have access to our early access shop and treasure sheets. You might have noticed some drastic design changes over the past couple of weeks. I'm happy to leak that this is a side effect of the feature we're currently working on, which is selling items from shops to characters and looting treasure chests. This is step 1 in a lot of plans we have for what we're currently called sheet-to-sheet communication. Once we have the ability to sell/loot from treasure chests and shops, it's not a large leap to send items from player to player. It will more likely be a button on the sheet than a drag and drop between two sheets, though. Resources is also something we've gotten a lot of feedback on and have plans to fix, we just have to work through some other priorities first. When the team isn't working on the new and improved shop sheet, we're putting all our efforts towards various performance improvements and stability which takes precedence right now unfortunately. Once we've reached the end of the incremental and sweeping performance upgrades we're working through, resources might be next on the list to uplift and make more visible. No promises, as I'm a dev and priorities shift around me over time, but I can promise it's on our radar at least!
Nicole, thanks for this feedback. Shop and treasure has greatly evolved since my last trial! Interesting (but you missed communicating it properly in my opinion, if not for this message I would not have gone back to look at it). May I ask if in your roadmap of sheet to sheet transfer is also another old request I did many months ago: the copying of effect. To clarify, the cleric has bless (or guidance or resistance....) and a bless effect is present on the cleric sheet but it would be nice to be able to copy the effect on other characters' sheet Also, any possibility to have some feedback on documentation per my previous message? thanks Andrea
Nicole B., Word of sheet-to-sheet communication is exciting! I have tried to use the 2024 sheet as a DM but found too many short comings, I am a player in a 2024 game and see the DM struggling and myself as a player fighting with things such as resources and experience points. To get me back I would like to Experience point management via Mod scripts, (EasyExperience), and resource management (eg. when I shoot an arrow it should automatically deduct it from my inventory). I am looking forward to these improvements, thank you.
I've run into an issue using the 5.5(2024) NPC sheet. My druid is wildshaping and I've given them access to the NPC stat block. When changing NPC sheet types from Full to Compact, it seemingly erases all skill proficiencies from the NPC sheet.

Hi Lemmy, Not addressing the error you are stating, but have you tried the one-click wildshape setup so that the player doesn't need NPC character sheets? There will be a discord stage coming up with a more details sneak peek on what's coming, though, so keep an eye out. Copying of effects and other PC-to-PC content is something we're talking about depending on how popular the shop sheet features are. Those are still in the design phases, trying to figure out where to add more buttons without adding more complication, buttons in chat vs. on the sheet, what icons may or may not be readable, etc. Still a lot of discussions being had there, but it's something we're discussing actively how to best send, sell, or share things between PC sheets. Your feedback on documentation is noted but I don't have anything to share at this time. We used the old sheet's documentation to create these roll templates and attributes, though, so all of them (except I think mancerroll) should work the same between sheets. If a macro isn't working as expected, I'd appreciate hearing about it so we can look into and match more closely. I'm looking into what we can do to update EasyExperience to work on both sheets, it's a fairly simple script so it wouldn't be too bad. I think I missed that also the artificer gets a skill proficiency when you multiclass: Skill Proficiencies: Choose 1: Arcana , History , Investigation , Medicine , Nature , Perception , or Sleight of Hand . But here it's only one, not two. So, something isn't correct in the builder.

If that's the case, it's probably an easy fix. I'd send them a Help Request so they can look at it, in any case.

As a player, on the 2024 character sheet I am having a problem with the spell Cordon of Arrows . When I try and use it it messes up the entire character sheet and locks it up. I have to close it and reopen it. Sometimes I have to refresh the entire map page. It also feel like it is messing with the GMs sandbox. When not in a game it still screws up in the Character vault.

If a macro isn't working as expected, I'd appreciate hearing about it so we can look into and match more closely. I think you folks should keep focusing on getting the basics in a good place, instead of worrying too much about new features. A lot of stuff has improved since I last tested. Like for example, I'm now able to create a human fighter. However there are still many major bugs in places that just need to work: - I wanted to create a Kensai monk -> couldn't select the weapons. - I wanted to create a Barbarian -> sometimes fails to load the list for weapon masteries. - I search something in an already loaded list -> takes 10 seconds to show the result - I wanted to create a Human and apply some filters to get rid of the eberron content -> sheet get's stuck in an infinite loading screen and the only option is to delete the character. And from what I can tell a lot of those issues are related to the number of load requests (which could be reduced) + bad compendium performance / errors + improper error handling on the sheet's side. At least I can see valid HTTP responses from the compendium when those issues happen, the JSON just indicates some issues that aren't handled by the sheet: - JSON contains an error message (i.e. timeouts) -> should definitely be handled, just like you would do for some bad HTTP status (hopefully) - Empty arrays -> could be solved with some simple sanity checks in most places (array length > 0) Example1 : class wants weapon mastery, list is empty, we know that the free rules have something for that, definitely an error Example2: sheet wants to display races, list is empty, we know there are some in the free rules, definitely an error Maybe it should just show an "uups something went wrong" - message when the compendium is having issues again? Seems better than being stuck in some limbo state that can't be figured out by normal users, or worse: having to delete a character in the middle of a campaign. So yeah, I'd still consider that experience still unusable for general play.

Hi Hultz, I tried reproducing the issue with both the PHB 24 and PHB 14 versions of that spell and was unable to reproduce what you describe, could you open a Help Centre ticket with a link to the effected game and name of the character(s) affected by it. Thanks! Hi Zweig, thanks for your feedback and detailed information. Depending on when you were testing it, we were seeing an elevated amount of compendium request timeouts yesterday, if you can try again and open a Help Centre ticket if you're still encountering those issues we can better get you help that way. Unfortunately due to the way the compendium requests happen it should already be retrieving all of the content when we make the request (e.g. when you need the weapon masteries but don't own the PHB, it pulls from the FBR expansions (unless that is disabled in the compendium sharing, which is a whole other can of worms to deal with)) In regards to showing an error state when the compendium is experiencing errors, I absolutely agree, that does sound like a good choice and I'll raise that to the team to see if we can get something in place for it! Regarding the Kensai monk, I'm thinking you meant the one from Xanathars, correct? This looks to be something being wrong with our data setup, I'll take a look and raise it to our team so that it can get fixed! Thanks for alerting us to the issue!

I highlighted it probably 6 months ago and I seem to remember Nicole at the time said it was in the works or about to be solved so maybe is a regression? Andrea

I can't get the AC attribute to show properly on tokens. It shows the base number and not the calculated final number. Which attribute do I need to set on the token to show AC properly? I can't find one that works.

I can't find one that works. Getting the AC to display on the token correctly hasn't worked in all circumstances since the 2024 sheet was introduced. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This has been complained about multiple times. No word on when this will be fixed.
Nicole B. said: Autumn Panic said: Hello hello, I’ve been following development of the new sheet for a bit and there are many things that are making me consider moving from running games for my players through (hereafter dubbed DB) and the Beyond 20 extension to running in roll20, but there are few major hang ups for me right now: I love how much easier it is to add custom items that integrate into the character sheet on the fly in the new sheet. You set me up so well for this one that someone might suspect we asked you for a favor... Very exciting, thank you kindly! Will go for a gander at the treasure sheets etc. :) Totally understand how getting core functionality and whatnot takes priority over the customisation features. We’ll probably remain split between 3 different sheets for now haha, have a couple using the roll20 in the new and old form and the rest on DB, but very excited to see all the active development.
So it was kind of a disaster in my session tonight. The sheets (2024) were taking forever to link abilities in the chat and the macros were taking over a minute to load after clicking (we timed it). I notice this happen in one of my other games during the week, but it was nowhere this severe. I also noticed that the tokens would get into weird loops (token HP attached to 2024 sheet) where myself or a player would change the HP value and it would keep boomeranging back to the old value going back and forth. I'd then detach the token from the sheet and it would still be happening. And in other instances, I'd try to adjust the HP and when I entered a value (ex: -14) nothing would happen and the HP wouldn't update. Overall it was just a really bizarre night of technical issues with the new sheet (And my player who was using the old sheet wasn't having any issues so we were pretty sure it was something with the new sheets). I'm not really sure what I can do about it, I just thought I should mention it and see if anyone else has had a similar experience and if they have any workarounds should this happen again. The session was pretty much a bust due to these technical difficulties. =( I did try looking online for workarounds and troubleshooting but none of the stuff that was mentioned seemed to fix the issue. Could it be because the game is older? This is a really old game that's about 5 years old (time it was created).

If it were me, I'd make a backup copy of the game (just in case something goes wrong during conversion, then I'd update/convert the game to the newer system.
These are all converted, Jumpgate games. They should be upgraded as far as I know, the game is just really old.
Can confirm--this happened in my game on Monday night as well. We gave up on character sheet rolls and just used the dice roller and added bonuses manually. The game I was running was created less than a year ago, so I don't think your conversion from legacy to JumpGate caused the problems. I played around a little today and it's still a bit uneven; one character sheet loaded quickly and rolls showed up in chat quickly, but another sheet took forever to load and to display rolls. Roll20 has been adding some nice functionality lately, so I suppose we're experiencing some growing pains. DM Raven said: So it was kind of a disaster in my session tonight. Roll20 posted something last night in one of their Discord channels: "This is unfortunately under our 2024 sheet performance update that the team is actively working on as we speak. Right now, the only suggestion is below which is refreshing in the meantime. We hope to have this performance update out soon to fix what you're experiencing. I wish I had a better answer here and know this is extremely frustrating (As a player, I am frustrated, too!) but I can promise the team is actively hammering through it to get this fixed ASAP. But, I don't think this has anything to do with problems updating a token but I suppose it might since all of the problems seem to be with the new 2024 sheet.

We are focused on resolving the root issues for the recent degraded performance. I will share more as we are able to release and measure improvements. Hello everyone. I am trying to figure out how to enact the effect of a Bless spell on a character sheet. This should essentially add 1d4 to all attack rolls and saving throws. The only place I could find to do this is by adding a new Condition called "Blessed" in which I added the two modifiers. Unfortunately it would not let me type a roll expression (like 1d4), only a fixed value. So that won't work. Am I going about it the wrong way or is this a current limitation / bug in the new character sheets?

The easiest workaround for this is to drag the bless spell from the compendium to the character sheet; this will automatically add an effect to the sheet to do what you want. The downside is that you now have a spell on your character sheet that you didn't want and can't cast. A while back, others asked for the ability to add the bless effect without having to add the spell. A Roll20 team member said it was on their to-do list, but I imagine they have bigger fish to fry in the short term. So...it's something they're aware of, but I wouldn't count on seeing it any time soon!
Hi, I've not tested this before so wanted to see if anyone has the same issue. Just changed the roll type to Query. When attacking from the character sheet the attack asks you to choose Advantage/Normal/Disadvantage which is as expected. If I create a token action for an attack roll and make that attack from the token action it doesn't ask you to select and just makes a normal roll. Is this expected behaviour or likely to be changed soon ? In our games opening the character sheet takes an age so we try and have as much set up as token actions as possible.

Hi Saul, Good news its its not just me although I don't get why the token action doesn't duplicate what you can do from the character sheet but I guess that's just the way it is.
Thank you Jay. I appreciate the workaround. I will try logging a bug / enhancement request to make sure it is tracked. Jay's advice used to be the ideal method, but the sheet has been updated since then so you can build the exact effect that the spell has manually. All you have to do is click + on the Effects section on the Combat tab, check Saving Throw and Attack, and make the Dice 1d4. Then you turn it on and off as needed. Before the sheet was updated, adding the spell was a workaround for this. We are currently looking into ways that sheets can affect other sheets, with Bless as one of the considerations, though. The reason it's not exactly the same is because the token action can be triggered whether or not the sheet is open, from a chat button, the macro bar, or an API script. In fact that's one of the most common use cases of these actions, to allow you to take actions without needing to use the sheet. Given that context, we can't rely on the sheet showing you a popup and asking you specific questions. We could possibly recreate the concept of asking about advantage specifically by using queries (similar to what we do for casting spells via macro), but we wouldn't be able to use that workaround to recreate the full experience of listing all your possible situational bonuses and effects and asking you which ones apply.

So I noticed something interesting today with the macros. I was able to roll attack rolls quickly from the 2024 sheet but clicking on damage (in the chat) took forever for the damage roll to come through. But, if I rolled the damage from the sheet it was almost instant. Not sure if this was just me or a known issue, but figured it would help if I called it out. Another note, at least for the clockwork sorcerer, is that it seems to take forever to subtract sorcery points from the sheet.
Is anyone else seeing an issues where all characters globally are able to reorder and organize things in the combat tab with no issue draging and dropping but under the feats and inventory tabs it either does not work or it is buggy and moves things improperly. this came on suddenly for me.

I'm well into a fix and hoping to have it out today!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but are there any community made or different styled sheets for 5.5e in the works or available?
